Description for Director of Project Management:
The Director of Project Management provides strategic leadership, direction, and oversight for all project management activities across Field Services division which currently includes 9 locations across the United Staes and is rapidly growing. This role is responsible for building, leading, and scaling a high-performing Project Management department that delivers consistent, predictable, and high-quality results on the company’s most complex and high-value projects.
This individual will establish the frameworks, tools, and best practices necessary to ensure alignment across teams and successful project execution from initiation through closeout. The Director will lead and mentor a team of Project Managers while working closely with executive leadership, operations, engineering, and clients to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in alignment with organizational goals.
The ideal candidate is an experienced senior leader who has not only managed large-scale projects directly with end users as well as through General and Mechanical Contractors but has built or transformed a project management organization, created process structure, and driven operational excellence within a highly technical Field Services environment.
Responsibilities for Director of Project Management:
- Develop and implement the company’s project management strategy, framework, and best practices to ensure consistency and scalability across all projects
- Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to the Project Management team—building capability, accountability, and collaboration across all levels
- Oversee the execution of complex, high-value projects ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectives
- Establish clear project governance, including standard tools, templates, reporting structures, and performance metrics to drive accountability and transparency
- Partner with executive leadership to align project priorities, resource allocation, and long-term departmental goals with overall business objectives
- Serve as a senior escalation point for project-related challenges, providing guidance and support to ensure effective resolution
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and professional growth within the Project Management department
- Oversee financial performance and profitability of the project portfolio, including forecasting, budgeting, and cost management
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams—Operations, Engineering, Sales, and Finance—to ensure seamless project handoffs and execution
- Maintain proactive communication with key clients and internal stakeholders to provide visibility into project progress, risks, and outcomes
- Monitor, analyze, and report on key project performance indicators (KPIs), ensuring trends and insights are used to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
- Support project conceptualization and estimation by providing strategic input during planning and proposal stages
- Ensure compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and U.S. Export Control Laws
- Other duties as assigned by direct manager
Requirements for Director of Project Management:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, business, or related field required
- Master’s degree or MBA preferred
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required
- Program Management Professional (PgMP) or equivalent advanced certification preferred
- Minimum of 10–15 years of progressive project management experience, including 5+ years in a senior leadership or director-level role managing multiple Project Managers or teams
- Proven success in building or scaling a project management department or framework within a technical, industrial, or construction-related environment
- Demonstrated experience leading multimillion-dollar projects with complex scopes and multidisciplinary teams
- Strong understanding of piping system commissioning processes (hydronic flushing, passivation, etc.) required
- Experience in Pharmaceutical, Data Center, Food & Beverage or Aerospace environments preferred
- Experience managing departmental budgets, forecasting, and financial performance
- OSHA 30 certification preferred
- Strong leadership and team-building abilities with a proven track record of developing high-performing teams
- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans and measurable results
- Excellent project planning, risk management, and organizational skills
- Strong business and financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets and drive profitability
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all organizational levels
- Advanced proficiency in project management and scheduling software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, CRM platforms)
- Data-driven mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to implement structure and process in a dynamic and evolving organization
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively
- Legal capacity to comply with federally mandated requirements of the U.S. Export Control Laws
