Description
The Director of Transportation has direct responsibility for executing the goals and objectives of the Brokerage & Transportation Logistics Business and participates with executive management to set strategic direction for the business. This includes directing and training staff to achieve overall business objectives as well as a Profit and Loss responsibility including strategic transportation procurement.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensures the Vision, Mission, and Values of the company are the guiding principles of daily business practices.
- Responsible for P&L including following all company financial policies and procedures.
- Responsible for following company procurement policies and procedures.
- Responsible for ensuring staff are trained in the company’s Quality Management System and adhere to all applicable company and department policies and procedures.
- Responsible for identifying key business processes and developing policies, procedures and work instructions for the brokerage and transportation departments to support the company’s Quality Management System.
- Responsible for maintaining positive carrier and customer relationships.
- Responsible for ensuring all company employees (including drivers) and contract carriers abide by the Federal Motor Carrier Highway Safety Regulations.
- Responsible for ensuring all employees and carriers abide by company policies and state regulations for transporting medical devices and pharmaceuticals.
- Recruits, hires, evaluates, and develops staff as needed to support organizational direction and goals.
- Works with the management team to research, develop and execute the Transportation Business Strategic and Tactical Plan as part of the overall Riverside Logistics Strategic Plan and MOS.
- Provides Transportation Department performance metrics on a daily, monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
- Provides customer service reports and other supporting documents to support the Sales and Customer Service team.
- Maintains current standards within the brokerage industry through personal contacts, professional reading and attendance at seminars/conferences.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Supply Chain or related field required: Post graduate degree preferred.
- 10 + years of experience in transportation industry with transportation brokerage experience required.
- 8 + years of experience in a business leadership position required.
- 5 + years of experience negotiating carrier rates.
- Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Suite of products, e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point.
- Demonstrate proficiency utilizing an integrated TMS (Transportation Management System)
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in software installation and troubleshooting.
- Attention to detail.
- Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills and analytical thinking.
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication.
- Demonstrate the ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English
- Be able to lift and or move items weighing up to 25 pounds.
