Position Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Administrator with expertise in IBM MQ (WebSphere MQ) to join a dynamic team supporting the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to work alongside top technology professionals in a mission-critical environment that safeguards our nation’s economic stability. Your role will involve managing and optimizing MQ infrastructure, ensuring secure and reliable message delivery across diverse platforms, and supporting the financial system’s infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and configure IBM MQ (WebSphere MQ) environments, including creation and management of queue managers and channels (sender, receiver, server, client)
- Manage clustering and distributed queuing for high availability and performance
- Ensure message persistence, delivery guarantees, and handle dead letter queues and poison messages
- Maintain Unix/Linux (AIX, Red Hat, SUSE) and Windows Server operating systems, including shell scripting and permissions management
- Configure and monitor network security protocols (SSL/TLS, TCP/IP, firewalls, LDAP, message encryption)
- Perform performance tuning, log analysis, troubleshooting, and capacity planning for optimal MQ operations
- Collaborate with development, security teams, and cloud platforms (AWS MQ, Azure Service Bus) to ensure seamless message exchange and system security
- Document procedures and incident management processes, and provide on-call support as needed
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- 5-10 years of IBM MQ administration experience (WebSphere MQ) in enterprise environments
- Strong knowledge of MQ configuration, queue management, channel setup, clustering, and message delivery guarantees
- Proficiency with Unix/Linux (AIX, Red Hat, SUSE) and Windows Server environments
- Shell scripting skills (bash, ksh, PowerShell) for automation and troubleshooting
- Solid understanding of network security principles, SSL/TLS, LDAP, and firewall configurations
- Experience with monitoring tools, log analysis, and performance tuning
- Familiarity with message brokers (IBM Integration Bus, Apache Kafka), application servers (WebSphere, JBoss, Tomcat), and cloud message platforms (AWS MQ, Azure Service Bus)
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills
- Certifications such as IBM Certified System Administrator - MQ are a plus
