Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Deputy Chief Information Officer (Deputy CIO) supports the CIO in leading and managing countywide technology implementation, delivery, service, and support. This role acts as second-in-command for the IT department, ensuring continuity of leadership, driving technical initiatives, and overseeing daily operations.
- Assists the CIO in developing, executing, and updating the county’s IT strategic plan, governance processes, and technology roadmap
- Supervises directors and managers in various functional areas
- Acts as primary decision-maker in the CIO’s absence to ensure business continuity for IT services
- Leads major projects, modernization initiatives, and cross-department technology programs
- Prioritizes technology efforts and projects based on legislative, budget, organizational demands, or technology advancements
- Ensures compliance with state, federal, and local laws and policies as well as best practices
- Researches and prepares various technical, administrative, and financial reports
- Collaborates with elected officials, department heads, and County staff to understand technology needs and align solutions with organizational goals
- Maintains partnerships with other agencies for collaboration, cooperation, and communication on various issues
- Supports budgeting, procurement, vendor management, and contract negotiations
- Represents IT, the County, and/or the region on various boards and committees as assigned
- Interfaces with county departments to determine prioritization and viability of system changes
- Communicates and incorporates technology changes into the overall WilCo technology environment
- Fosters innovation, service excellence, and continuous improvement within the department
- Attends all meetings and trainings, as required

- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and eight (8) years of executive management experience in a government setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Prior project management experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

- National Certified Government Chief Information Officer (CGCIO) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
- Working knowledge in all areas of technology software, hardware, data, methodologies, frameworks, and infrastructure
