: Transportation Manager

PAY: ExemptGENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Transportation manager is responsible for the entire daily transportation of Steel Decks and Rebar, OEG Building Materials Company. To accomplish this, the manager must be able to communicate well with all departments, coordinate equipment and drivers, and maintain a fine balance between distribution efficiency and customer service. Responsible for routing drivers, monitoring and evaluating driver performance, fielding incoming phone calls, rerouting drivers when necessary, and utilizing manpower efficiently and equitably to achieve the goals of the department. The Manager is actively involved in ensuring safe work methods are followed in the department, reviewing driver performance, and ensuring proper service levels are maintained for our customers.
Qualifications
- Must be able to route deliveries and must know the Tri-state area.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and communicate well with others.
- Knowledge of New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Virginia. Metropolitan New York area.
- Proficient in basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Commercial Driver's license class A or B
- Education or experience to fulfill the essential functions and responsibilities with a minimum of 3 years of operations/DOT experience and 2 years of experience managing others.
- Ability to motivate team, train, discipline, and develop subordinates
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle a crisis effectively
- Knowledge in creating Driver Qualification Files
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
- Monitor daily routing of our Steel manufacturing customer accounts in such a manner as to maximize both efficiency and customer service.
- Monitor daily coordination of products delivered/picked up on our trucks.
- Fleet maintenance/repairs/Manage all approvals and disputes
- Maintain up to date on all regulatory vehicle stickers
- Daily scheduling of drivers and corresponding trucks/equipment
- Monitor route setup, i.e. keys, tickets, maps, backhaul purchase orders, and any other pertinent information
- Driver safety meetings, maintain position on safety committee
- Monitor and maintain daily driver logs and verify available hours of service, U.S. DOT compliance, and conduct inspections
- Maintain monthly miles and fuel usage log (provide totals end of the month)
- Monitor efficient operation of each route, review driver time, number of stops, and weight. Make alterations when needed
- Train the Transportation Coordinator at another location
- Administers D.O.T Regulations
- Review driver performance by manifest reviews, on-road supervision, or driver observations.
- Schedule drivers for daily routes and day-off schedule.
- Assure drivers are properly trained in department policies, customer service, safety, and delivery driving ability.
- Perform field audits for driver effectiveness and customer service.
- Schedule all routes.
- Provides training for new and existing drivers as needed.
- Holds team accountable and disciplines when necessary
- Responsible for quarterly random UDS & BAT testing selection
- Other duties as assigned
