KLR Executive Search is partnering with a thriving, fast-paced, emerging biotechnology company in the greater Boston area to help find them a Vice President, Information Technology. This individual will report to the CFO and serve as the senior leader responsible for all aspects of the company’s technology function. This is a hands-on leadership role suited for an executive who thrives in a fast-moving, dynamic environment and can operate with urgency, adaptability, and with a “service” mindset. The VP will lead the design and execution of a modern, scalable IT operating model while simultaneously driving immediate improvements in business processes, workflows, infrastructure, and end-user experience. This individual must be comfortable moving quickly from problem identification to solution deployment—balancing strategic direction with real-time execution. Here are more details about the role:
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of IT, including infrastructure, applications, end-user support, and external service providers.
- Identify and implement technology-enabled improvements across core business processes, including onboarding, collaboration, data access, and operational workflows.
- Create a culture of service excellence, ensuring reliable, high-quality IT operations and seamless end-user experience for both on-site and remote employees.
- Oversee the design, optimization, and scalability of IT infrastructure, including cloud environments, endpoints, and collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft 365).
- Lead cybersecurity efforts, including risk assessments, mitigation strategies, and employee awareness programs.
- Drive adoption of new technologies and process improvements through effective, pragmatic change management approaches.
- Establish and maintain IT policies, controls, and documentation to support compliance with SOX and other regulatory requirements.
- Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and service delivery to ensure performance and cost-effectiveness.
- Develop and manage the IT budget with a focus on efficiency, ROI, and scalability.
- Support internal and external partners with foundational IT capabilities, including Microsoft 365 tenants, infrastructure, unmatched customer service, and onboarding processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
- 12+ years of IT experience, including 8+ years in leadership roles, ideally within small to mid-sized biotech or life sciences environments.
- Proven success operating in high-growth, fast-paced, or start-up environments where adaptability and speed are critical.
- Demonstrated ability to drive business process improvement and implement efficient operating models, with ability to work closely with cross functional leaders outside of IT.
- Someone who thrives and enjoys working in a hands-on, fast-paced, and sometimes unpredictable environment, can adapt and pivot quickly, and reestablish goals and objectives.
The base salary range for this position is $300,000 – $350,000 and does not include benefits and bonus potential. Compensation is determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to the role, function, and associated responsibilities, as well as a candidate’s work experience, education, knowledge, skills, and geographic location.
