Position Summary
The Director of Field Operations is a hands-on leadership role responsible for building and running the physical operations inside DCSL’s warehouse network. Working in close partnership with the operational leaders of DCSL, this role owns the physical side of the house: material handling, equipment moving, rigging, and the qualified field crews that execute the work. The Director of Field Operations will build these teams and service provider network from the ground up, manage their day-to-day performance, and scale the operation as DCSL grows.
What You’ll Do
- Build and lead DCSL’s field operations function from the ground up — defining roles, recruiting and onboarding qualified field crews and service providers, and establishing performance standards and operational culture from day one.
- Own all physical warehouse operations, including material handling, machinery moving, rigging, and equipment staging, ensuring safe, efficient, and accurate execution across all sites.
- Manage and develop front-line crews and supervisors through direct coaching, structured performance management, and hands-on field presence — building accountability at every level of the operation.
- Develop and implement standardized procedures, SOPs, workflows, and safety protocols for all field activities.
- Scale the field operations team in alignment with business growth, managing labor planning, crew scheduling, and staffing levels to meet operational demand without sacrificing safety or quality.
- Work closely with the Director of Warehouse Operations to coordinate physical and digital operations — ensuring seamless handoffs, shared visibility, and alignment between field execution and systems infrastructure.
- Partner with the sales and project management teams to scope and plan field operations for new site launches, customer onboarding, and time-sensitive deployments.
- Establish and track KPIs for field operations — including safety incidents, equipment utilization, labor productivity, and job close-out timelines — and provide regular reporting to senior leadership.
- Manage field equipment assets, including maintenance schedules, utilization tracking, and procurement planning for rigging gear, material handling equipment, and specialty tools.
- Drive continuous improvement across field operations — identifying bottlenecks, refining workflows, and implementing best practices to improve efficiency and job profitability.
- Position the field operations team for future capability growth.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the broader operations team.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive experience in field operations, machinery moving, rigging, material handling, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience leading and building field crews or trade teams, with at least 3–5 years in a senior leadership or operations management role.
- Deep hands-on knowledge of rigging principles, material handling equipment, and machinery moving — including safe operating practices and industry standards.
- Proven track record building operational infrastructure from the ground up, including SOPs, safety programs, and performance management frameworks.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, DOT compliance, and field safety requirements; ability to lead safety culture across a field team.
- Experience managing equipment assets, maintenance schedules, and procurement for field operations.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and team management skills with the ability to lead through influence and direct authority.
- Valid driver’s license and clean background required; ability and willingness to travel to DCSL warehouse locations as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Forklift and other lifting operation certification or experience overseeing licensed operations.
- Experience in data center logistics, industrial warehousing, or heavy equipment environments.
- Familiarity with final equipment placement and installation workflows.
- Background in construction project management or field supervision across multi-site operations.
What We’re Looking For
- A builder — you are energized by creating structure where none exists and know how to develop high-performing teams in fast-moving environments.
- A field leader — you lead from the floor, earn respect through expertise, and set the standard for safety and execution every day.
- A collaborator — you understand that physical and digital operations must work in sync, and you proactively build those bridges.
- Growth-minded — you see today’s material handling team as the foundation of tomorrow’s full-service crane and placement operation.
- Accountable — you own outcomes, hold your team to high standards, and create a culture where safety and performance are non-negotiable.
Physical Requirements
This is a physically demanding, field-based leadership role. The Director of Field Operations must be able to perform and supervise activities requiring considerable use of arms, legs, and full body movement — including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials up to 50 lbs. Must be comfortable working at varying heights, in proximity to heavy equipment and rigging operations, in non-temperature-controlled warehouse environments, and outdoors in all weather conditions and over uneven terrain.
Values & Culture
DCSL is looking for people who take pride in the work, show up for the team, and bring a no-job-too-small attitude to every project. We move fast, support each other, and build something worth being proud of. If that sounds like you, we’d love to talk.
