The Logistics Specialist is a critical role within the operations group, primarily responsible for the proactive control of inventory within a chemical manufacturing environment. This position ensures the accurate storage, release, and distribution (internal and external) of materials. The specialist must maintain strict compliance with Quality and Regulatory Systems, as well as Federal, State, Local, and International laws regarding material storage and shipment. The role is essential for timely order fulfillment, customer satisfaction, and the overall efficiency of the manufacturing and order fulfillment process.
Key Responsibilities
• Inventory Management & Accuracy:
• Proactively control inventory and ensure the accuracy of all inventory counts.
• Identify and correct inventory discrepancies and implement preventative actions.
• Maintain up-to-date records of all inventory locations.
• Timely management of expired and non-conforming items.
• Perform cycle counting.
• Receiving & Material Control:
• Execute the full receiving process: matching packing slips to purchase orders, detailed material review, tagging and identification, proper storage, and posting inventory receipts to management software.
• Issue inventory and consumable items, perform stock returns (RMA), and deliver material to the end-user on time.
Shipping & Distribution:
• Responsible for the shipment of finished goods, materials, and samples.
• Ensure all shipments meet rigorous DOT and IATA regulations.
• Handle daily closeout of orders (posting and invoice printing).
• Maintain adequate product stock in the distribution area.
• Communicate with customer service and operations regarding special shipping regulations.
Compliance & Safety:
• Perform all tasks in accordance with company policies, procedures, and all applicable regulatory and cGMP requirements.
• Maintain all required certifications for job duties.
• Maintain a safe work environment, following all company Health & Safety policies.
• Operational Support:
• Work with personnel to maintain safety stocks for consumables (e.g., shippers, trays).
• Participate in documenting processes and identifying areas for improvement in quality, efficiency, and safety.
• Cross-train on other department tasks to provide full-service support to teams.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education/Experience:
• High School Diploma (required).
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a business discipline, OR commensurate experience in a chemical handling, distribution, and/or material management environment.
Knowledge & Skills:
• Be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Ability to execute tasks with a high level of speed and accuracy.
• Must be self-motivated, energetic, honest, and possess a team attitude.
• Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills are a must.
• Strong ability to change direction and handle multiple responsibilities with composure in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills to develop good working relationships with colleagues and interact professionally.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Standing/walking 75% of the day.
• Ability to bend to retrieve product.
