The Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC) sponsors VISTA projects in organizations across the state to help communities and youth succeed in school and/or work. This summer, MCSC has opportunities for Summer Associates within the Commission and partnering organizations statewide. Participants must reside in Michigan and be within commuting distance of their assigned Host Site Organization. Assignments may include identifying nonprofits and supporting volunteer engagement; increasing nominations for the State’s volunteer recognition programs; developing disaster preparation plans for townships; creating community outreach materials; planning volunteer award ceremonies and conference events; or assisting with training development. Summer Associates can also apply to serve with partner organizations to support programs that provide resources to families; assist with youth summer education camps; address summer learning loss; support food distribution and nutrition education; assist with health-related services; support student employment programs; and more.
Member Duties : Summer Associates may engage in both direct service and capacity building service. Direct service may include collecting and distributing food and other resources to residents; supporting neighborhood improvement efforts; mentoring and coaching youth in summer programs; camp counseling; leading summer activities; supporting student employment; serving veterans; serving seniors; and more. Capacity building activities may include supporting nonprofit fundraising, recruiting volunteers, creating programs, developing social media marketing, and improving organizational processes.
