DescriptionThe Planning & Construction Intern position is designed to establish a strong entry-level foundation and understanding of basic concepts related to the on-site management of a ground-up new construction development at American Campus Communities (ACC). This position provides hands-on assistance to an active construction project and supports communication, organization, and reporting processes that keep the project on schedule and aligned with company standards. This focused learning role will provide the opportunity to work with and learn from construction and other industry professionals.
This role will be on-site for the project in Ft. Worth, TX.Job Responsibilities: (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED)
- Assist in foundational aspects of construction project management and operations, including, but not limited to: project scheduling, budgeting and reporting, subcontractor and design consultant coordination, construction safety protocols, quality control standards, materials procurement processes, site logistics management, etc.
- Assist in providing direction and guidance to contractors, sub-contractors, and/or design consultants regarding tasks that need to be completed and any work that requires revisiting or redoing based on contract requirements.
- Assist in inspecting and documenting completed work done by any contractor, sub-contractor, and/or design consultant based on contract requirements.
- Aid in monitoring project costs by tracking invoices, purchase orders, and assisting with budget reconciliation.
- Assist in tracking and updating Request for Information (RFI) and submittal logs to ensure timely information flow between General Contractor, design consultants, and third parties
- Assist in scheduling and managing site deliveries of furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FFE).
- Participate in punch walks and acceptance process, including coordinating with Construction Manager, General Contractor and design consultants, verifying completed items and documenting progress in the project tracking system.
- Assist with preparing reports, documenting progress, and tracking meeting action items, ensuring accurate records of contracts, change orders, inspections, and final delivery reports.
- Follow and support safety protocols on-site, participate in safety meetings, and help identify potential hazards.
- Following supervisor's direction, effectively communicate with stakeholders to ensure appropriate information is relayed, construction team needs are being fulfilled, and standards of work are being met.
- For all on-campus projects, coordinate with university partners with guidance from supervisor to ensure they feel informed throughout the construction process.
- Participate in structured internship program components, including engagement with various teams, assigned learning activities, and other program requirements as applicable.
- Attend and actively participate in all necessary meetings and training courses as required.

This job operates in a professional environment, primarily based on-site at active construction and development locations. This role requires working outdoors in various weather conditions. This role is exposed to typical construction site hazards and must adhere to all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Skills, Knowledge and Expertise- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree, from an accredited college/university in related field such as: Construction, Construction Management, Engineering, and/or Architecture Real Estate.
