Role Overview
This position is responsible for supporting the buying director in the end-to-end seasonal buying process, from initial line concept through in-season management and post-season analysis. This role plays a key part in ensuring product assortments and buying strategies align with brand vision, sales goals, and customer demand. The Assistant Buyer is highly organized, analytical, and passionate about fashion, trends, and product lifecycle management within a fast-paced, growing contemporary brand environment.
Essential Duties:
Buying & Assortment Support
- Assist Buying Director in building and maintaining seasonal assortments across all categories (RTW, handbags, footwear, accessories, home & pet) for both Ecommerce and Stores
- Monitor delivery flow and launch timing, partnering with Production and Planning to ensure product hits floors and online according to seasonal storytelling and marketing calendars
- Assist in exclusive or capsule assortment management, including special projects, collaborations, limited drops, custom & pet
Business & Sales Analysis
- Analyze weekly, monthly, and seasonal sales performance to identify best sellers, slow movers, and emerging trends
- Prepare selling reports, hindsight analyses, and recap documents to support buying decisions
- Monitor inventory levels & support in-season assortment optimization, including reorders and chase styles based on performance
- Contribute to post-season hindsight analysis, documenting wins, opportunities, and learnings to inform future buys
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Collaborate closely with Director of Buying on strategic buying and merchandising initiatives
- Act as a liaison between Buying, Production, Planning, Marketing, Wholesale, Merchandising, Retail and Logistics teams
- Communicate order details, changes, and delivery updates to internal partners
- Collect and organize qualitative feedback from stores (customer reactions, fit insights, sell-through trends) and elevate actionable insights
Market & Trend Research
- Conduct trend, competitive, and market research relevant to STAUD’s customer and brand positioning.
- Monitor industry, street style, and competitive assortments to support product strategy.
- Support development of seasonal narratives aligned with brand direction.
Administrative & Operational Support
- Create and maintain buy documents, logs, and trackers
- Support showroom organization, photoshoots, and internal product reviews as needed.
Prerequisite Knowledge, Skills, & Education
- 1-2 years of professional experience in buying or merchandising within fashion or retail.
- Proven track record of managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects from concept to completion
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret business data and make strategic recommendations
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills with ability to juggle multiple priorities
- Strong communication and presentation skills
