Reports To: Senior Operations Leadership
Position Overview
This role is responsible for the end-to-end movement of goods from production through distribution and ultimately to the end customer across multiple channels. The position oversees inbound and outbound execution, partner performance, order management, and on-time, in-full delivery while balancing speed, cost, and service.
The leader in this position will develop scalable processes, manage external service providers, and ensure accurate, timely allocation and shipment of product to meet business commitments. This role partners closely with Planning, Production, Sales, Retail, E-commerce, Operations, IT, and Finance to ensure supply chain capabilities support growth, cost control, and brand standards.
Key Responsibilities
Inbound Flow
- Oversee inbound movement of product from domestic and international production sites to distribution locations.
- Manage service providers across multiple transportation modes.
- Negotiate contracts, rates, and service levels and plan for seasonal capacity needs.
- Monitor production ship windows, delivery timelines, delays, and exceptions in partnership with planning and production teams.
- Optimize mode mix to balance speed, cost, and margin objectives.
Outbound Flow & Customer Delivery
- Oversee outbound activities supporting wholesale, store, and direct-to-consumer fulfillment.
- Ensure customer orders are shipped on time and in full according to established guidelines and service levels.
- Manage last-mile performance, including carrier selection and service expectations.
- Own shipment calendars, blackout periods, and peak-season readiness plans.
Order Management & Allocation
- Own the order lifecycle from allocation through shipment.
- Partner with commercial and planning teams to allocate inventory across multiple channels.
- Manage order prioritization, backorders, cancellations, and partial shipments.
- Ensure effective communication and alignment across order, warehouse, and enterprise systems.
- Proactively identify risks to customer delivery and drive timely resolution.
External Partner & Facility Management
- Lead day-to-day management and performance oversight of external distribution and logistics providers.
- Establish and track key performance indicators for distribution operations, including accuracy, timeliness, throughput, and cost metrics.
- Conduct regular business reviews and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support peak planning, labor forecasting, and space utilization efforts.
- Ensure operations support replenishment, wholesale, and direct-to-consumer needs.
Cost Management & Performance
- Manage budgets related to freight, duties, and accessorial charges.
- Track and report performance metrics such as on-time delivery, cost per unit, cost per order, transit times, and provider performance.
- Identify and execute cost-savings opportunities without compromising service or brand expectations.
- Partner with Finance on accruals, budgeting, and variance analysis.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure adherence to customer requirements, data standards, and shipping guidelines.
- Oversee documentation such as invoices, packing details, advance shipment information, and classification/country-of-origin data.
- Maintain compliance with relevant import/export regulations, customs, and carrier rules.
- Reduce penalties and chargebacks through proactive process management and partner accountability.
Systems, Process & Continuous Improvement
- Partner with Operations and IT to enhance functionality within core supply chain and fulfillment systems.
- Improve visibility and tracking of product from origin through final delivery.
- Develop standard operating procedures, documentation, and training for key workflows.
- Leverage data and analytics to improve predictability, speed, and service levels.
Team Leadership
- Build and lead a team across inbound, outbound, order management, and partner coordination.
- Set clear accountability, performance goals, and development plans.
- Foster a culture of urgency, accuracy, and customer-first execution.
Qualifications
- Extensive leadership experience in logistics, distribution, or supply chain within product-based industries.
- Deep expertise in international and domestic transportation and third-party provider management.
- Strong understanding of customer compliance requirements and data-driven fulfillment.
- Experience managing multi-channel operations (e.g., retail, wholesale, direct-to-consumer).
- Proven success negotiating contracts and managing complex logistics budgets.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional partners.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced training or certifications in supply chain or logistics are a plus.
