Responsible for managing tactical freight execution and domestic and international carrier performance, providing strategic support, coordination including identifying potential savings in vendor relationships, negotiating to reduces costs in the supply chain and cultivating critical carrier partnerships. This position partners cross -functionally to implement programs and develop logistics solutions that improve the efficiency and effectiveness to support company growth. Reviews freight pricing that provides rate card and P&L inputs for new and existing pricing requests and supervises that cost and billing procedures align with the pricing method.
- ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Develop and foster close relationships with internal and external customers including carrier partners, customer solutions, warehousing, plant operations, sales and sourcing.
- Serve as a client-facing logistics expert, providing consultative support and ensuring alignment between logistics solutions and customer expectations.
- Support of ModusLink standard logistics processes and strategy including support of business units and departments in Inbound/outbound traffic - ocean, sea, air and domestic. Maximize the cost effectiveness of this function.
- Support regional carrier strategy – onboarding, implementation of carriers within the region. Responsible for preparing statistical data for contract negotiations and participating in negotiations. Coordinate carrier onboarding and transitions.
- Maintain and update carrier pricing changes, version control of contracts, and carrier scorecard process and metrics.
- Identification of incumbent clients for logistics management services, associated freight savings and plan for migration of accounts to achieve these savings.
- Support of sales and pricing on the logistics elements of new business to ensure that ModusLink’s logistics solutions are a competitive advantage in new business situations; RFx process management including updates of regular content and financial analysis.
- Proven ability to optimize freight operations and deliver measurable cost savings.
- Partner cross-functionally to prioritize and advance initiatives for top-tier customers to meet customer specific freight requirements and optimize delivery efficiency
- Work with the regional teams to negotiate contracts and terms, proactively work to improve service levels.
- Prepare, secure approval for, and implement operating and expenditure budgets for department, and operate within those guidelines. Assist in the preparation of the company-wide budgets.
- Manage third-party provider responsible for end-to-end execution of less-than-truckload deliveries
- Implement and monitor cost and service objectives and metrics to continuously improve delivery performance
- Provide sustainable solutions for carrier, lane and customer challenges considering cost, service and industry insights
- Develop and manage process to invoice clients for freight related activities in accordance with pricing agreements between client and ModusLink.
- Supervise direct reports to ensure internal and external invoices for both client and vendors for freight related activities are processed in a timely manner and are accurate.
- Partner with Procurement to identify and assign transportation partners to adequately satisfy network capacity and capability requirements for short and long term plans
- Create strategies to mitigate disruptions and measure cost and service impacts.
- Develop transportation plans to support network changes, including site start-ups, production shifts and customer realignments.
- Support dedicated carrier programs and monitor carrier performance
- Ensure that transportation operations are conducted safely and within terms of Company policy, contracts, government regulations and the law
- Develop, maintain, and optimize route guides to ensure efficient carrier selection and compliance with routing instructions.
- Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and route guide development
- Oversee logistics operations within Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ), ensuring compliance with U.S. Customs regulations and maximizing duty deferral opportunities.
