Position Summary
The Transportation Terminal Manager is responsible for overseeing daily dispatch and terminal operations to ensure safe, on-time pickup and delivery of customer freight. This role manages driver communication, load planning, equipment utilization, safety compliance, and customer service while driving operational performance and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
• Build and maintain strong professional relationships with drivers to support retention and
performance
• Schedule and assign loads efficiently to maximize service and equipment utilization
• Monitor and update dispatch systems in real time
• Communicate proactively with customers regarding load status and service issues
• Coordinate effectively with drivers, operations staff, and terminal leadership
• Promote and enforce all company safety initiatives, including the Target Zero program
• Monitor driver performance metrics including MPG, idle time, safety, and compliance
• Process driver paperwork accurately and in a timely manner
• Track equipment status, maintenance needs, and operational reporting
• Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company operating procedures
• Maintain a positive, solutions-focused work environment
• Support emergency operational needs as required
Qualifications
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced transportation environment
• Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office, internet, and email
• Experience with TMW, Fleet Rock, Samsara, or other transportation management systems
preferred
• Strong understanding of dispatch operations, equipment allocation, and driver management
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation safety standards
Experience & Education
• Minimum of 5 years of transportation, dispatch, or terminal management experience
preferred
• Tanker industry experience is highly preferred
• Equivalent combination of education and industry experience will be considered
Work Environment & Schedule
• Office and terminal-based position
• Average workweek of 45–50 hours
• Must be available after hours for operational emergencies
• Most weekends off, with occasional weekend availability as needed
