Logistics & Transportation Optimization Manager

Are you an immediately available logistics expert who thrives on solving complex transportation challenges and driving operational excellence? This role will initially be a 6 month contract
We are seeking a highly experienced Interim Logistics & Transportation Optimization Manager to lead outbound shipping performance across a fast-paced retail supply chain environment. This is a critical role for a hands-on expert who can identify opportunities, remove barriers, and deliver measurable improvements in cost, service, and customer satisfaction.
This role does not manage a direct logistics team and can be remote based if you are not based near Cary.
What you'll be doing
As a key member of the supply chain team, you will
✅Manage performance and strategically partner with 3PL provider - UPS in Kentucky
✅ Optimize outbound transportation operations, with a strong focus on parcel shipping (90%+ volume)
✅ Drive improvements across parcel and LTL transportation networks
✅ Leverage Walmart transportation and service requirement to improve operational performance
✅Analyze customer order patterns, shipping profiles, and delivery destinations to identify optimization opportunities
✅ Lead initiatives to improve OTIF (On Time In Full) performance and reduce chargebacks and retailer fines
✅ Champion a customer-first approach, ensuring exceptional service levels for retail customers
What we're looking for
- Strong operational logistics and transportation background
- Extensive experience in outbound shipment optimization
- Deep understanding of parcel carrier networks and transportation management
- LTL shipping expertise
- Proven experience working with Walmart supply chain and service requirements
- Track record of improving OTIF performance and reducing retailer compliance penalties
- Experience managing and influencing 3PL providers
- Strong data and analytical skills
- Ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions
- Experience within retail, consumer goods, or customer-focused supply chain environments
- Natural problem solver and decisionmaker
- Highly collaborative and able to influence cross-functional stakeholders
