Job Description
The Logistics Lead is responsible for developing and executing logistics strategies that support large-scale capital projects from planning through construction and project closeout. This role serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for transportation, import/export compliance, customs regulations, materials management, and global supply chain logistics.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, procurement, construction, supply chain, and project management teams to ensure equipment and materials are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project schedules. This position requires extensive experience managing domestic and international logistics, third-party logistics providers, and complex transportation activities for industrial or energy projects.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the logistics subject matter expert (SME) for capital projects throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop and implement comprehensive logistics strategies supporting engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
- Lead development of project freight profiles, transportation plans, and logistics execution strategies.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, and supply chain teams to align logistics activities with project schedules and objectives.
- Develop integrated materials management plans that provide visibility into equipment and material movement from procurement through installation.
- Identify logistics risks and develop mitigation strategies to support project execution.
- Manage relationships with third-party logistics (3PL) providers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and transportation contractors.
- Coordinate domestic and international transportation, including ocean freight, ports, heavy haul transportation, rail, trucking, and specialized cargo movements.
- Oversee transportation planning for oversized, heavy-haul, and modular equipment.
- Ensure compliance with import/export regulations, customs requirements, trade compliance, and shipping documentation.
- Apply Incoterms® principles to support procurement strategies, contract negotiations, and international shipments.
- Advise project teams on risk transfer, transportation responsibilities, and cost allocation associated with various Incoterms.
- Ensure transportation terms are accurately reflected within purchase orders, contracts, and shipping documentation.
- Monitor logistics performance, transportation schedules, and material deliveries to support construction milestones.
- Coordinate warehousing, laydown yards, inventory control, preservation, and material tracking activities.
- Oversee materials management activities including receiving, storage, surplus disposition, damaged materials, and project closeout.
- Support workface planning by ensuring materials are available to meet construction schedules.
- Prepare logistics bid packages and participate in contractor evaluations and negotiations.
- Collaborate with project controls and cost teams to monitor logistics budgets and transportation costs.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to logistics, materials management, and supply chain performance.
Skills And Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in logistics, supply chain, transportation, or materials management.
- 8–10 years of experience supporting industrial, energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, or capital construction projects preferred.
- Strong knowledge of domestic and international freight transportation.
- Experience managing third-party logistics (3PL) providers and freight forwarding services.
- Working knowledge of import/export regulations, customs compliance, and international shipping requirements.
- Strong understanding of Incoterms® and international commercial shipping practices.
- Experience with heavy haul transportation, oversized equipment moves, marine transportation, ports, and multimodal logistics.
- Knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory management, material preservation, and construction materials control.
- Strong organizational, planning, and project coordination skills.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and logistics or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting major capital projects in oil and gas, petrochemical, energy, mining, or industrial construction.
- Experience with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) or EPCM project environments.
- Knowledge of materials management systems and construction workface planning.
- Familiarity with project controls, scheduling, procurement, and contract administration.
- Experience coordinating global supply chain operations and international project logistics.
- Certification in Supply Chain, Logistics, Project Management, or Procurement is a plus.
Work Environment
- Office-based with regular interaction with project teams, suppliers, contractors, and logistics providers.
- Periodic travel to project sites, fabrication facilities, ports, warehouses, and supplier locations may be required.
- Fast-paced project environment supporting multiple concurrent logistics activities.
- Requires coordination across engineering, procurement, construction, supply chain, and operations teams to meet project milestones.

Pay: $800/per day
Location: Houston, TX
Schedule: 9/80, In office M-TH, Fridays remote, Light travel will be required
