A day in the life...
Railroad dispatcher, Directs, monitors, and controls train traffic and track maintenance within an assigned territory to ensure safe and efficient movement. Issue operational authorities, manage switches and coordinate with crew members.
Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirement listed below is representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. - Must be able to climb and balance well enough to climb ladder and/or cars 10% of time.
- Must be able to sit, stand and walk 100% of time.
- Must be able to hear well enough to distinguish warning sounds or verbal instructions above loud noises 100% of time.
- Must be able to reach with hands and arms and/or use fingers to feel handle 100% of time.
- Must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, and lift periodically.
- Must be able to exude up to 50lbs force to throw a switch.
Leadership skills- Railroad Dispatchers direct train movement to On Track Equipment and Trains and must be able to direct rail traffic safely and efficiently.
Speaking skills- Railroad Dispatchers must be able to speak clearly so other railroad employees and outside agencies understand what they are saying.
Work Environment- While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to loud noise, moving machinery parts, outdoor weather conditions and elements, airborne particles and fumes from gas, oil, and grease.
Drug Free- Railroad Dispatchers must pass a Standard FRA Drug and Alcohol test and will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Salary: $20.00-$23.00
