Skywater is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop custom automated equipment, testing machines, and production fixtures used in mechanical component manufacturing. This engineer will lead mechanical design efforts for test benches, inspection systems, and automation equipment while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams across controls, manufacturing, and product development.
The ideal candidate brings experience designing industrial machinery, automated equipment, or custom machines, and enjoys solving complex mechanical design challenges in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop custom automated machines, test benches, and production fixtures used in automotive manufacturing environments.
- Create 3D mechanical assemblies, detailed drawings, and fabrication documentation using CAD tools.
- Select and size mechanical components, motion systems, linear modules, motors, sensors, and structural components.
- Design pneumatic and hydraulic systems integration, including mechanical layouts and safety considerations.
- Collaborate with controls engineers, manufacturing engineers, and product engineers to integrate equipment into production lines.
- Support machine builds, assembly documentation, and production startup.
- Participate in continuous improvement and new equipment development projects to improve manufacturing processes.
Desired Skills And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of mechanical design experience, preferably designing machines, automated equipment, or industrial systems.
- Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, or CATIA.
- Experience designing mechanical assemblies, fixtures, automated equipment, or test machinery.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional engineering teams.
