The Senior Manager of Distribution & Transportation leads Clover Sonoma’s outbound logistics network, ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of dairy products from the Petaluma creamery to customers, distributors, and retail partners.
This role oversees transportation operations including route distribution, driver management, fleet oversight, and delivery performance. The position works closely with warehouse and manufacturing leadership to ensure seamless product flow from production to final delivery.
The ideal candidate is a strategic logistics leader with deep experience in food or refrigerated distribution operations.
A Day in the Life
Transportation & Distribution Operations
- Oversee all outbound transportation operations including route planning, dispatch, and delivery execution.
- Ensure on-time departure and completion of Clover Sonoma delivery routes and distributor shipments.
- Manage transportation scheduling to align with warehouse and production output.
Driver & Team Leadership
- Lead the Transportation Supervisor, drivers, and dispatch personnel.
- Provide coaching, training, and performance management for transportation staff.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and exceptional customer service.
Fleet Management
- Oversee company fleet operations including maintenance scheduling, compliance, and vehicle utilization.
- Partner with fleet maintenance teams to ensure reliable vehicle performance.
- Monitor transportation costs, fuel usage, and fleet efficiency.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and transportation safety standards.
- Maintain driver qualification, hours-of-service compliance, and vehicle safety requirements.
- Monitor and reduce accident and incident rates.
Operational Coordination
- Collaborate closely with warehouse leadership to coordinate loading schedules and route departures.
- Improve distribution processes and routing efficiency.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across logistics operations.
Performance & Reporting
- Track and report transportation KPIs including:
- On-time delivery
- Route efficiency
- Driver safety performance
- Distribution costs
Role Requirements
What You Bring to the Team
- 5+ years of transportation or distribution leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of route distribution operations
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and fleet management
- Experience managing driver teams in a delivery environment
Preferred Requirements
- Refrigerated food or dairy distribution experience
- Experience with ERP/logistics systems (SAP preferred)
- Budget management experience
Education
- Associate’s degree required
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Business preferred
