The purpose of this position is to oversee and/or track the performance of daily operations of a transportation unit, including tasks as determined by the assigned department, the supervision of drivers, management of vehicles, and coordination of routes to ensure safe, efficient, and effective service delivery. This role requires working knowledge of public transportation systems and mobility services for client populations.Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; addresses concerns and resolves problems; oversees work assignments and operational tasks; conducts employee performance evaluations; handles coaching, discipline, and training.
Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work to meet service goals; develops and manages employee or vendor schedules to ensure adequate coverage; monitors progress and inspects work quality; provides technical guidance on complex issues; ensures necessary resources are available to complete assignments.
Ensures vehicles are safe, properly maintained, and meet regulatory standards; maintains up-to-date records on fleet inventory, maintenance, and repairs; trains staff on vehicle use, safety procedures, and operational policies; collaborates with vehicle support personnel as needed.
Responds to inquiries from clients and the public; provides information about available services and resources; assists with program enrollment and service-related issues; investigates and resolves customer concerns in a timely manner.
Maintains working knowledge of transportation-related software platforms, including vehicle tracking systems (AVL), field service applications, and database systems; provides end-user support to staff; stays informed on emerging technologies and best practices in transportation operations.
Tracks and reports on operational activities; assists in the development and revision of standard operating procedures; ensures compliance with safety, performance, and quality standards.
Performs other duties as assigned to support department goals and ensure operational continuity.
Specialized Functions By Department
Under the direction of the Transit Operation Division Manager, tracks and ensures the contractual requirements of third-party service providers responsible for fixed route, paratransit, and micro transit operations; ensures vendors meet performance expectations, as preestablished contractual requirements and metrics; coordinates closely with third-party operations staff, and county transit operation staff to implement service improvements and resolve vendor-related issues, as related to customer service, asset management, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED; supplemented by three years of experience in transportation or similar field, with one year as a supervisor.
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).
Sensory Requirements
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, or traffic hazards.
