The purpose of this position is to performs semi-skilled and skilled work involving: the installation, maintenance and repair of the city’s infrastructure in a safe, effective, and efficient manner in order to protect public health and safety; or, the, streets, utilities, and general maintenance of City public rights of way. Duties are contingent upon assigned department.
This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of equipment, materials, and tools used in construction, grounds maintenance, utilities, or routine painting work.
- Knowledge of proper safety practices, procedures and regulations application to work being performed.
- Knowledge of the equipment, methods and materials used in ground maintenance.
- Knowledge of the proper methods and procedures used in cleaning work areas and equipment.
- Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
- Ability to take oral and/or written instructions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
- Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
- Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
- Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
- Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
- Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors.
WORK HOURS Monday-Friday 7:30am-4pm (May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays to meet the business needs of the City.)
