Please confirm the starting salary with the hiring department before accepting a job offer.For information regarding reciprocity between the City of Los Angeles departments and LADWP, go to http://per.lacity.org/Reciprocity_CityDepts_and_DWP.pdf.DUTIESA journey-level Utility Line Clearance Tree Trimmer (ULCTT) inspects, climbs, trims, and removes trees and/or vegetation that interfere with or are in proximity to Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) infrastructure for regulatory compliance, to eliminate hazards and prevent interference with utility lines and equipment; acts as a mentor to ULCTT Trainees, Tree Surgeon Assistants (TSAs), and laborers in various phases of Vegetation Management activities and LADWP infrastructure related duties. Performs Vegetation Management and infrastructure related duties around hazardous working conditions, including at various heights and around energized lines, and performs related work.

Six months of full-time paid experience in tree trimming, landscaping, or gardening work; orSix months of full-time paid experience with the City of Los Angeles as an Electrical Craft Helper or Tree Surgeon Assistant; orHonorable discharge from the United States Armed Services, and indication on the DD-214 of 6 months of experience in related work as specified in Requirement # 1; orA valid International Society of Arboriculture Tree Worker Climber Specialist Certificate.PROCESS NOTESAll entry-level positions are temporary training positions as defined in Civil Service Commission Rule 5.30. A Utility Line Clearance Tree Trimmer in a trainee positionmust successfully complete an intensive on-the-job and classroom-training program in order to promote to a regular Utility Line Clearance Tree Trimmer. It is anticipatedthat the training program may last up to 24 months, during which time the trainee is expected to successfully complete an intensive course curriculum with a written andpractical exam to qualify for promotion to the journey-level Utility Line Clearance Tree Trimmer.As a condition of employment, a valid Class B driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is required. Applicants will be disqualified and candidates will not be eligible for hire if their DMV record within the last 36 months reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation such as DUI or DWI in any state or jurisdiction. Notice of disqualification or ineligibility for hire may be issued by the City of Los Angeles at any time before a final job offer is extended.Candidates will be asked to submit a commercial driving history in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles CVS 1808.1.For Internal Use Only: Licensing verification will occur at the time of appointment. Applicants filing under Requirement #3 must submit AT THE TIME OF FILING their application a copy of their DD-214 or a copy of their military identification indicating End of Active Obligated Service (EAOS) date within six months from the application date. Examination Weight: Physical Abilities Test. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Pass/Fail Interview . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 100%The examination will consist of a qualifying physical abilities test (pass/fail) and a weighted interview. In the qualifying physical abilities test, which is meant to assess physical capability, candidates may be tested for coordination, flexibility, strength, and endurance. Candidates will be scheduled one time only for the physical abilities test. Candidates who fail to pass the physical abilities test will not be allowed to participate in the interview and will be considered as having failed the entire examination.Candidates will be notified later by e-mail of the date, time, and location of the physical abilities test, which will be administered in a single half-day session in Los Angeles. It is anticipated that the physical abilities test will be administered between MONDAY, MAY 4, 2026 and FRIDAY, MAY 15, 2026. Passing Score for Qualifying Physical Abilities TestThe passing score for the qualifying physical abilities test will be determined by Personnel Department staff after the qualifying physical abilities test is administered. Consideration will be given to the number of candidates taking the test and the existing and anticipated number of vacancies, such that there are a sufficient number of eligible on the list to satisfy current and future vacancies for the next two years.Candidates must achieve a passing score on the qualifying physical abilities test in order to be invited to the interview.The examination score will be based entirely on the interview.
