Key Responsibilities Of a Vice President Of Transportation Operations
As the VP of Transportation Operations, you will:
- Provide executive leadership across all transportation and operational functions within the Austin market
- Maintain full P&L ownership and deliver strong financial performance
- Lead, mentor, and develop high‑performing teams, including staff and independent contractor drivers
- Ensure fleet readiness, vehicle utilization efficiency, and maintenance excellence
- Build strong relationships with customers, city officials, and key community stakeholders
- Ensure strict compliance with all safety standards, regulatory requirements, and training programs
- Use operational and financial KPIs to drive continuous improvement and operational optimization
- Develop and manage the annual budget, controlling costs while maximizing profitability
- Support contract negotiations, renewals, and strategic business development initiatives
- Foster a culture rooted in accountability, safety, service quality, and operational excellence
- Partner with Human Resources on workforce planning, engagement, and employee relations strategies
Qualifications Of a Vice President Of Transportation Operations
- 5–10 years of progressive leadership experience in transportation, operations, or general management
- Demonstrated success managing full P&L responsibility
- Strong executive presence with excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
- Proven ability to develop leaders and build collaborative, high‑performance teams
