Millwork Project Manager Austin, Texas (Relocation Required)
About the Role
Dovetail Custom Wood and Metal is seeking an experienced Millwork Project Manager to lead complex, high-end architectural fabrication projects from contract through closeout. This role is responsible for protecting scope, enforcing schedule discipline, coordinating fabrication workflows, and managing client expectations on technically demanding commercial projects.
This is a senior, ownership-driven role. The Project Manager is accountable not just for coordination, but for outcomes.
Relocation to Austin, Texas is required. We provide full onboarding support, including temporary housing for the first ninety days and structured training with senior leadership. After onboarding, you will manage Austin-based projects and may support additional work in Dallas/Fort Worth and other major markets.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage custom architectural millwork, metal, and stone projects ranging from $1M to $10M
- Own contracts, schedules, financial performance, and scope from kickoff through closeout
- Coordinate across engineering, purchasing, production, and field installation teams
- Conduct site visits to verify field dimensions, framing conditions, quality, and installation readiness
- Lead client communication and issue resolution with general contractors, architects, and vendors
- Track RFIs, submittals, approvals, change orders, and deliverables across multiple timelines
- Use project management systems (INNERGY) to maintain schedule, budget, and scope alignment
- Mentor and direct an Assistant Project Manager after onboarding
What Success Looks Like in This Role
- Projects are planned and executed with realistic schedules aligned to engineering and fabrication capacity
- Scope, inclusions, and exclusions are actively enforced, not discovered late
- Schedule risks are identified early and communicated clearly
- Change orders are issued contemporaneously and defended professionally
- Production and field teams trust the PM’s direction, documentation, and decision-making
- Premium labor and overtime are used intentionally, not reactively
Safety Responsibilities
- Ensure all project activities comply with OSHA standards and company safety procedures
- Confirm subcontractors and field teams meet site safety requirements
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 5 years of commercial architectural millwork project management experience
- Experience managing custom fabrication projects involving cabinetry, architectural millwork, metal panels, or stone
- Strong understanding of fabrication methods, shop drawings, installation sequencing, and field verification
- Proven ability to manage complex fabrication schedules and enforce scope boundaries
- Experience issuing and managing change orders in active construction environments
- Excellent communication, documentation, and follow-up discipline
- Proficiency with productivity and project management software
- Field installation and/or shop floor experience
- Experience with high-end or luxury commercial interiors

- Familiarity with INNERGY ERP

Work Location and Schedule
- Based in Austin, Texas (relocation required)
- Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Periodic travel to job sites in Austin and Dallas/Fort Worth
