The ideal candidate is results-driven, skilled in resource management, and committed to high-quality standards. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams—including engineering, quality, supply chain, and production—to streamline processes, reduce costs, and accelerate build timelines. Leveraging cutting-edge technologies and methodologies, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of manufacturing techniques, ensuring Blue Origin’s continued innovation and excellence in aerospace engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the industrialization of new flight and payload hardware (solar arrays, avionics, structures, mechanisms, integration & test, GSE, and more).
- Drive application and optimization of DFM, DFA, DFT across product lifecycle.
- Translate engineering requirements into robust, repeatable manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Collaborate closely with design engineering, quality, supply chain, and operations to integrate products and accelerate build.
- Develop and maintain clear manufacturing documentation (work instructions, inspection plans, process flows, tooling).
- Evaluate/implement new manufacturing tech: composites, advanced machining, additive, metrology, materials, automation, etc.
- Lead, support, and document root cause investigations and drive corrective action.
- Ensure strict compliance to standards (AS9100, ISO 9001, NASA, UL, AWS, etc.).
- Own or support process FMEAs, risk assessments, equipment validation, and product qualification.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction; advocate for Lean/DFx principles.
- Mentor, coach, and support the technical development of engineers and technicians.
- Represent Manufacturing Engineering in program, customer, supplier, and cross-functional reviews.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline
- Relevant Manufacturing Engineering experience: (1-3 years Level I Engineer, 3+ years Level II Engineer, 5+ years Level III Engineer, 8+ years Level IV Engineer)
- Demonstrated experience creating clear, accurate manufacturing documentation (work instructions, BOM, flow diagrams)
- Ability to work required shift and site, with flexibility for extended shifts/overtime as needed
Preferred Qualifications (Multiple Levels Covered):
- Master’s/Advanced degree in relevant engineering field
- Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt, PMP, or equivalent certification
- Thermal/Fluid Systems: Hardware/system-level ownership, experience with spacecraft thermal control, pressure vessel qualification; application of NASA, ASME, AWS, UL, and similar codes.
- Structures & GSE: Experience designing, building, and qualifying complex aerospace structures, pressure vessels, GSE/tooling (flight or ground support equipment), multi-axis mechanical systems, PLC/motion control.
- Solar Arrays/Avionics: Experience building/testing solar arrays, harnesses, panel/wings; proficiency with NASA-STD-8739.*, ESD cleanroom practices, electronics systems, advanced test methods; familiarity with safety-critical hardware.
