Ministry Function
The Disaster Services Response Manager supports the ministry of Convoy of Hope and the Disaster Services team by responding to disaster events throughout the United States and internationally. Responsibilities could include leading the setup and oversight of overall field operations during active responses, as assigned, and contributing to departmental projects during peacetime as determined by department leadership. This position is deployable and could serve in the Convoy of Hope Disaster Operations Center, as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Deploy as part of the response team in the U.S. and internationally to provide oversight for the setup and operation of relief efforts, including—but not limited to—POD sites, field distribution centers, and debris removal operations, as assigned.
- Deploy as a Disaster Assessor and make comprehensive recommendations to DS leadership, as assigned.
- Provide management for responses in which Convoy of Hope does not have a physical field presence, consistently communicating with partners to ensure relief efforts are carried out, completed, and reported accurately, as required.
- Provide leadership on projects, during active responses and/or peacetime as assigned. Duties may involve supervisory responsibilities to ensure completion.
- Coordinate the distribution of disaster supplies, and/or the management and maintenance of equipment during assigned responses.
- Assist with long-term recovery efforts and/or partner support, as assigned.
- Assist with volunteer management and/or training, as assigned.
- During active disasters serve as field supervisor, as assigned.
- During peacetime, may be assigned to various projects within the DS department.
- Follows general and equipment specific safety rules. Use appropriate safety protection equipment and other safety devices, as required.
- As a member of the Program Division, support other programs, as assigned.
- All other duties, as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2+ years of experience in disaster services or church/compassion ministry or related field required.
- Ability and willingness to deploy often on short notice for up to several weeks at a time.
- Ability to positively contribute to team projects, cooperate with team members and assist supervisors with planning and evaluation.
- International travel experience is preferred.
- The ability to obtain an international passport is required.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and mediation skills and tact are a must.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for creating, editing and proofreading correspondence.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, the ability to multi-task, be detail oriented and manage deadlines.
- Ability to use a PC and/or Mac software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and Google Business.
- Must be 25 years of age and able to obtain a Class A driver’s license within one year of employment.
- Must have or obtain “ServSafe Food Handler” certification within 90 days of employment
- Must have or obtain applicable Forklift Certification within 60 days of employment.
- Must have or obtain chainsaw operator and safety certification within one year of employment.
- Must have or obtain CPR/AED/Basic First Aid certification within 60 days of employment.
- Completion of required FEMA and NIMS courses prior to employment or within 6 months of employment.
- Serve as an advocate for the ministry, striving to nurture, broaden and develop financial and other resource opportunities to support and expand organizational and program ministry.
- Ability to positively represent the ministry of Convoy of Hope, including its mission statement and core values, to all outside constituencies.
