The Springfield-Branson National Airport Board is seeking a dynamic and experienced operational leader to serve as its next Director of Aviation. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication, leadership, and strategic planning skills, along with extensive experience in aviation operations.
This individual will bring a well-rounded background that includes expertise in airport management, strong financial acumen, political awareness, a commitment to community engagement, and a champion for the future. The successful candidate must be highly knowledgeable in FAA and grant regulations, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with both internal and external stakeholders, and exhibit a data-driven, analytical approach to decision-making.
The Director of Aviation will serve as a key member of the City’s leadership team and will be responsible for guiding the airport strategy, operations, and transformation efforts. The City believes the strongest organizations are built through better processes, stronger relationships, and a culture grounded in trust.
The Ideal Candidate Will

- Leads the long-term vision by successfully implementing the 20-year Master Plan for the airport.
- Leads personnel and resources to accomplish the airport’s mission to be the premier Midwest Airport through exceptional service and safety.
- Leads an aggressive and expanding commercial air service development program to serve the air transportation needs of the region.
Excellent Compensation Package
The role offers a flexible total compensation package including.
Minimum starting salary is $200,000/annually, however compensation is flexible based on experience and skills, including:
- No-cost employee-only health insurance
- Pension through the Local Government Employee Retirement Systems (LAGERS) with employee contribution made 100% by the City and full vesting after five years
- Deferred Compensation 457(b) plan with employer match programs
- Annual performance increases
- Generous Leave time with holiday, vacation, floating holidays, exempt, and sick leave
- A car allowance of $680 per month

Qualifications And Requirements
Experience, Education and Training
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with specialization in Airport Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related discipline;
AND
- At least five years experience in the supervision of airport operations and maintenance, including familiarity with building and lease management and major capital development projects;
Preferred
- Experience with general and commercial aviation;
- A Master's degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for one year of work experience.
Licensing/Certification
- Accreditation by the American Association of Airport Executives is preferred;
- Must be able to obtain accreditation within two years of employment.
