Job Summary
Project Manager / Trainer – Residential Painting
Rough Seas Painting & Coatings
At Rough Seas Painting & Coatings, we believe great projects are built by great people. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Manager / Trainer to lead residential painting projects while developing strong, capable teams.
This role is ideal for someone who leads with integrity, takes pride in their work, and enjoys helping others grow. You’ll oversee multiple projects from start to finish while training crews, improving systems, and ensuring our standards for quality, safety, and profitability are met.
Our core values guide everything we do:
Be Yourself. Do the Right Thing. Help Others Win.
Compensation is performance-based and tied directly to project quality, efficiency, and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage residential painting projects from initiation through completion, ensuring efficiency, quality, and adherence to scope.
- Develop, maintain, and adjust detailed project schedules using painting/project management software.
- Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure clear communication and smooth project execution.
- Read and interpret schematics, and product documents as needed to support accurate job execution.
- Conduct training sessions for team members on painting best practices, safety protocols, software tools, and company systems.
- Perform regular site visits to monitor progress, quality, safety compliance, and crew performance.
- Manage contracts, change orders, and ensure compliance with all contractual and company requirements.
- Oversee job costing, including labor and material controls, resource allocation, and profitability tracking.
- Enforce safety standards on all job sites and promote a culture where doing the right thing is non-negotiable.
- Mentor and develop team members in project management, site coordination, teamwork, and effective communication — helping others win on and off the job.
What We Value in This Role
- Be Yourself: We value authenticity, accountability, and people who take ownership of their work and leadership style.
- Do the Right Thing: You operate with integrity, treat customers and teammates with respect, and make decisions that protect quality, safety, and trust.
- Help Others Win: You enjoy coaching, training, and building others up — not just managing tasks, but developing people.
Team-First, Hands-On Leadership
At Rough Seas leaders don’t sit on the sidelines. While this role is primarily focused on project management and training, there will be times when you’re expected to jump in alongside the paint team — whether covering for a sick crew member, helping push a project across the finish line, or supporting more complex or high-detail work.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in project management with strong skills in scheduling, time management, leadership, and customer communication.
- Demonstrated experience leading residential painting crews and working directly with customers in person, by phone, and via email.
- In-depth knowledge of residential painting timelines, job costing, contract administration, efficient project start-up, and site safety protocols.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects, teams, and stakeholders simultaneously.
- Strong leadership and training skills with a hands-on, solutions-oriented mindset.
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Residential painting site experience strongly preferred.
- Clear, confident communication skills for both training delivery and client interaction.
