The ideal candidate for the Logistics Specialist role will possess a strong understanding of U.S. import regulations, freight forwarding, and drayage operations, along with proven experience in managing third-party logistics providers and maintaining accurate inventory tracking. Job Overview:
The Logistics Specialist is responsible for managing inbound logistics operations for both domestic and international shipments, with a strong emphasis on cost optimization, tariff compliance, and efficient port clearance. This role ensures timely, compliant, and cost-effective movement of goods from global suppliers to U.S. destinations, while maintaining accurate inventory and supporting continuous process improvements. The specialist will also collaborate closely with peers responsible for freight forwarding and transportation from the port to project sites (and vice versa) to ensure seamless end-to-end logistics execution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee international and domestic inbound shipments, ensuring smooth customs clearance at U.S. ports and timely delivery to designated locations.
- Monitor and apply correct tariff classifications, ensuring compliance with U.S. import regulations and trade laws. Maintain accurate documentation for audits and regulatory requirements.
- Analyze freight, drayage, and port handling costs; identify opportunities for savings through carrier negotiations, route optimization, and process improvements.
- Collaborate with port authorities to expedite clearance and minimize delays.
- Work closely with peers managing freight forwarding and transportation from ports to project sites (and vice versa) to ensure alignment on schedules, cost targets, and compliance requirements.
- Maintain SKU-level inventory tracking using ERP systems (SAP, WMS, or similar). Ensure accurate reporting and forecasting to support business needs.
- Recommend and implement strategies to reduce logistics costs, improve efficiency, and enhance compliance processes.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to support logistics and supply chain objectives.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in logistics or supply chain roles with a focus on international inbound operations.
- Strong knowledge of customs clearance, tariff classification, and U.S. import regulations.
- Proven ability to analyze and manage logistics costs effectively.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP, WMS, or similar).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Master's Degree is a plus.
- Experience in a manufacturing or project-based environment is preferred.
