Job Title: Director of Global Quality Job Location: Tempe, AZ
We are looking for an experienced, passionate, and highly professional Director of Global Quality with a transformative vision and proven track record to build and lead a world-class, global quality organization spanning QEMS, QA, and QC. You will manage internal teams, oversee SQE and external QC resources in Asia, engage OE partners, and guide quality with contract manufacturers and ODM’s. This a high profile role that reports directly to the President.
Responsibilities
Quality and Environmental Management System (QEMS)
- Own and maintain the company’s QEMS in compliance with ISO 9001:2015 / IATF16949:2016 and applicable standards.
- Ensure documented information and audit readiness across all processes and locations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and maintain certification requirements.
- Establish governance for risk-based thinking and process approach throughout the organization.
- Improve efficiency in processes, risk based thinking and continuous improvements.
Quality Assurance (QA)
- Develop and implement proactive quality strategies to prevent defects.
- Oversee APQP, PPAP, Safe Launch, and process audits for new product introductions.
- Manage internal QA team and mentor for career development and growth.
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure robust design and process validation.
- Formally establish, implement and continually improve Rockford’s QEMS System.
- Interface with OE partners to align on quality expectations and compliance requirements.
- Establish process clearly detailing sustaining engineering requirements.
Quality Control (QC) & Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE)
- Oversee inspection and testing activities for incoming materials, in-process checks, and final product audits.
- Manage SQE resources globally to ensure supplier quality alignment and compliance with OE and aftermarket requirements.
- Drive supplier development programs, including process audits and corrective actions.
- Implement and monitor reliability testing (R&R studies) and oversee Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) and Process Change Requests (PCR) for compliance.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications and regulatory standards.
- Drive problem-solving methodologies (8D, A3, CAPA, Kaizen, PDCA) for field and production issues.
Additional Responsibilities
- Act as the primary quality liaison with contract manufacturers and ODM partners.
- Establish and monitor KPIs for quality performance and report to senior leadership.
- Support continuous improvement through Lean and Six Sigma practices.
- Direct engineering design support and authority in processes such as DFMEA and PFMEA, control plans, incoming/in-process and final inspections
- Establish and monitor staff career development metrics in order to build world-class quality team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in quality leadership roles within consumer electronics or automotive sectors.
- Deep knowledge of QEMS, ISO standards, PPAP, APQP, and supplier quality management.
- Proven experience managing global teams and external suppliers.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Experience with audio/electronics manufacturing.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and environmental standards (ISO 14001:2015).
- Ability to travel internationally to Asia on a quarterly basis to oversee supplier quality and external resources.
- Proficiency in Mandarin is a plus
- Understanding of product development processes, especially within hardware, software, and electronics. Knowledge of Documented Information, PLM, ERP, and quality management systems is highly beneficial.
- Experience in Change Management, ideally within the automotive, electronics manufacturing, or technology sectors or enterprise environment.
