About the Company
Our client is a rapidly growing medical logistics organization that recently expanded into a new 60,000 sq. ft. facility in Aurora, IL, tripling their operational footprint. They specialize in time-sensitive medical courier and cold chain logistics, supporting clients in diagnostics, research, and life sciences.
With continued national growth, they’re seeking a hands-on Director of Logistics to take ownership of all day-to-day logistics operations and vendor relationships.
Position Overview
The Director of Logistics will oversee all aspects of courier and shipping logistics across the organization — managing FedEx, UPS, airline, and medical courier relationships while optimizing delivery routes, contracts, and profitability. This person will play a key role in scaling the company’s logistics network and ensuring operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all daily shipping and logistics operations, including:
- Courier network management (Sprinter vans, cars, and small fleets — no freight or tractor-trailer).
- Vendor oversight for FedEx, UPS, USPS, and commercial airline partners.
- Contract negotiation and pricing agreements for courier and shipping services.
- Oversee billing and markup processes, including reselling third-party logistics services to customers.
- Determine when to subcontract courier work versus hiring direct company couriers based on volume and geography.
- Collaborate with operations and facilities teams on cold chain logistics, ensuring integrity of temperature-controlled shipments.
- Supervise logistics staff and coordinate with cross-functional teams (warehouse, sales, customer service).
- Maintain and enhance logistics technology and reporting systems for visibility and efficiency.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in logistics, preferably in medical, diagnostic, or cold chain shipping environments.
- Proven success managing courier and small-fleet logistics (not long-haul freight).
- Strong understanding of vendor contracting, route optimization, and operational cost analysis.
- Experience with FedEx/UPS/air cargo relationships and logistics software platforms.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work onsite in Aurora, IL full-time.
Preferred Experience
- Prior roles with BioTouch, Lab Logistics, Airspace, or similar medical logistics providers.
- Experience with logistics reselling or managing markups on shipping services.
- Exposure to cold chain storage, -80°C freezer management, or biospecimen logistics.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $90,000 – $120,000 (based on experience).
