Role Description The Certified Firefighter role is a full-time, on-site position based in College Park, GA. This role is responsible for responding to fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and other calls for service, performing fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical care according to department protocols. Daily duties include inspecting and maintaining firefighting equipment and apparatus, participating in training and drills, and conducting fire prevention activities such as public education and building inspections. The firefighter will follow established safety procedures, collaborate closely with other firefighters and emergency personnel, and accurately document incidents and activities. This position involves shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and requires adherence to departmental standards, city policies, and applicable regulations.
Qualifications

State certification as a firefighter and completion of an accredited fire academy or equivalent training.
Emergency response skills, including fire suppression, search and rescue, and basic emergency medical care (EMT certification preferred).
Physical fitness and the ability to perform strenuous tasks, work in hazardous environments, and pass required medical and fitness evaluations.
Knowledge of fire behavior, building construction, incident command systems, and use of firefighting tools, equipment, and protective gear.
Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
Commitment to ongoing training, professional development, and adherence to safety standards and department protocols.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; ability to operate emergency vehicles as required.
High school diploma or equivalent; prior firefighting or public safety experience in a municipal setting is beneficial.
