Aeronautical Engineer – UAV & Rotorcraft Systems
We are an innovative aerospace and defense technology company focused on the design and development of advanced autonomous aerial systems for commercial and mission-critical applications. Operating at the intersection of aerodynamics, propulsion, embedded systems, and autonomy, our team delivers high-performance solutions in complex, high-reliability environments.
As a high-growth engineering organization, we offer the opportunity to take ownership of aircraft development across the full lifecycle - from early concept and modeling through prototyping and flight validation.
The Role
We are seeking an Aeronautical Engineer with strong experience in UAV and rotorcraft systems to support the design, modeling, and testing of advanced aerial platforms. In this role, you will work on aerodynamic modeling, propulsion integration, and system-level performance analysis.
You will collaborate across multidisciplinary teams in a hands-on environment, contributing directly to the development and validation of next-generation aircraft systems.
What You'll Do
- Develop and optimize aerodynamic models, including propellers, rotors, and aircraft outer mold line (OML) geometries
- Perform system-level performance modeling, including payload, range, propulsion, and energy systems
- Conduct CFD simulations and aerodynamic analyses for aircraft configurations and flow interactions
- Model rotorcraft performance and validate predictions using test or flight data
- Design and integrate rotorcraft subsystems, including propulsion, rotor systems, and airframe structures
- Conduct testing and characterization of motors, rotors, and propulsion systems
- Evaluate vehicle performance, including stability, control authority, and efficiency trade-offs
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to advance designs from concept through prototype and testing
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and design presentations
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical Engineering, or related field
- 6+ years of experience in aeronautical engineering, with a focus on UAV or rotorcraft systems
- Strong understanding of aerodynamics, flight mechanics, and electric propulsion systems
- Experience with rotorcraft modeling, including performance prediction and wake or load analysis
- Proficiency in CFD and aerodynamic analysis methods
- Experience with CAD tools and engineering scripting (e.g., Python or similar)
- Familiarity with aerospace materials such as composites and metallic structures
- Demonstrated ability to analyze aircraft performance and propulsion systems
- Experience preparing technical documentation including reports, specifications, and test procedures
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field
- Experience with UAV, eVTOL, or advanced aerial system design
- Familiarity with rotorcraft modeling methods (e.g., blade element momentum, vortex-based methods)
- Experience with experimental validation, including wind tunnel or propulsion testing
- Hands-on experience with flight testing or prototyping
- Knowledge of flight control systems or simulation environments
