Director of Operations
The Marketing Department (TMD) | Miami Beach, FL | Full-Time
About TMD
The Marketing Department is a CMO-led creative marketing consultancy. We help real estate, hospitality, and innovation brands break through — combining deep Miami market fluency with a proprietary breakthrough marketing method and best-in-market creative strategy.
We are not a production shop. We don't compete on price or volume. We are selective about who we work with, and we expect the people who join us to hold that same standard.
TMD is part of Breakthrough Brands, alongside What's Good Miami (WGM) and Sunshine Coffee.
The Role
We're hiring a Director of Operations to build the operating infrastructure behind TMD's growth. This is not a project-management role. This is a business-building role for someone who has actually built businesses before — who knows what it takes to take an agency-style consultancy from strong creative reputation to a scaled, profitable, well-run operating company. Must be very AI and tech-fluent.
You will own the systems, process, financial discipline, and delivery infrastructure that let the creative and strategy work that scale without breaking. You'll work directly with the founder and partner closely with our Head of Operations and Partner team to turn TMD's growth targets into an operating reality.
Reports to: Founder Works closely with: Partner (Creative Direction), Head of Operations
What You'll Own
- Operating rhythm — Build and run the systems (project management, client delivery, resourcing, reporting) that let the team execute consistently at a high standard as headcount and client load grow
- Financial operations — Own the numbers: revenue by client, margin by engagement, utilization, pricing discipline. You'll be the person in the room ensuring we price like we mean it and never underdeliver against that price
- Scaling infrastructure — Design the operational backbone (staffing model, workflow, vendor/contractor network, tooling) required to hit $3M in annual revenue at a 50% profit margin
- Team and delegation architecture — Identify what should be owned internally vs. delegated vs. automated; build the org structure that lets the founder and partners stay focused on strategy and client relationships, not operations
- Client portfolio management — Work with leadership to structure the client roster deliberately (anchor clients, showcase clients, growth relationships) rather than reactively
- New business support — Bring rigor to the sales pipeline: proposal infrastructure, contract terms, onboarding process, and the discipline to close warm leads before they go cold
What You've Done Before
- You've built or been a founding operator inside a business — not just managed one that already had systems in place. You know what it feels like to build the plane while flying it
- B2B business-building experience strongly preferred — you understand sales cycles, client retention economics, and margin discipline in a services or consultancy context
- You've owned P&L responsibility, or been close enough to it that you think like an owner, not an employee
- You've scaled a team from a handful of people to a real organization — and you know the difference between adding headcount and building capability
- You are allergic to bureaucracy for its own sake, but you build just enough structure that quality doesn't depend on any one person's memory
What We're Looking For
- A true operator — someone who gets energy from building systems and closing gaps, not from strategy decks alone
- Financially fluent: comfortable owning margin, pricing, and forecasting conversations
- Direct communicator. No hedging, no burying the problem in a status update
- High standards and low ego — you'll be building infrastructure that makes other people's work look good, and that has to be genuinely satisfying to you
- Someone who wants equity in the outcome, not just a paycheck for the process
Compensation
- Competitive base salary
- Strong performance-based incentive tied to revenue and margin targets
- Earned equity in TMD, structured around tenure and measurable impact on the business
How to Apply
- Send a note that tells us: what business you built or helped build, what you actually owned, and what happened to the numbers while you were there. Skip the cover letter formalities — we want the real story.
