Position Summary
AFC Transport is seeking a results-driven
Vice President of Operations to own the end-to-end performance of our
reefer and flatbed fleet. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role sets operational strategy, drives KPI execution, and ensures accountability across fleet managers and driver support teams to achieve service, safety, and cost targets.
This leader will work closely with Sales, HR, Safety, and Maintenance to scale the business, strengthen operational discipline, and retain top-performing drivers in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment.
Essential Functions
Leadership and Team Development
- Lead, coach, and hold accountable fleet managers and driver support personnel.
- Set performance expectations, operating cadences, and clear accountability standards.
- Own hiring, onboarding, performance management, and corrective action processes in alignment with company policy and applicable law.
Fleet Operations and Performance
- Drive utilization, on-time performance, revenue and margin per mile, and cost efficiency across the fleet.
- Monitor KPIs daily; translate data into rapid, practical operational action.
- Build and maintain SOPs that ensure consistency and support scalable growth.
- Own after-hours exception management to ensure continuous operations.
Driver Retention
- Partner with Fleet Managers and HR on driver performance and retention initiatives.
- Ensure driver-facing issues are escalated and resolved promptly and professionally.
Compliance, Safety, and Risk
- Ensure full compliance with DOT regulations and federal, state, and local requirements, as well as company safety policies.
- Partner with Safety and Maintenance on incident response, corrective action, and fleet readiness.
- Oversee GPS, ELD, and telematics utilization in accordance with policy and legal requirements.
Executive Communication and Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Report operational performance, risks, and improvement plans clearly to the CEO and executive team.
- Align with Sales on capacity planning and customer service commitments.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reporting.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of experience in asset-based trucking or fleet operations, including at least 3 years in a people-leadership role.
- Proven ability to lead operational teams through metrics and KPI-driven accountability.
- Strong working knowledge of DOT compliance and fleet safety practices.
- Experience managing a reefer or flatbed fleet.
- Proficiency with TMS platforms, ELD/GPS tools, and standard business software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Track record of scaling asset-based operations in a high-growth environment.
- Experience building SOPs, escalation frameworks, and KPI reporting cadences from the ground up.
- Familiarity with maintenance coordination workflows and telematics platforms.

Work Environment
