Senior IT Project Manager (Hybrid Role - 12-15 Years Exp. | PMP Required)
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior IT Portfolio Manager to actively manage, optimize, and oversee a multi-million-dollar technology portfolio. This critical hybrid role requires a proven leader with 12-15 years of relevant experience who can maintain a strategic, portfolio-level view while also executing hands-on Project Manager (PM) duties for select high-priority initiatives.
The successful candidate must drive operational efficiencies, realize significant cost savings, and manage rigorous, complex budgets. Active Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Portfolio Management: Define, manage, and optimize the overall IT project portfolio, ensuring all initiatives directly align with strategic business objectives and priorities.
- Executive Governance: Facilitate and lead executive-level portfolio governance, review, and key decision-making processes.
- Hands-On Project Execution: Dedicate a portion of time to directly manage and deliver complex, high-priority projects within the portfolio, performing all typical PM duties (planning, scheduling, risk management, execution).
- Financial & Budget Control: Develop, meticulously manage, and control the multi-million-dollar portfolio budget. Track actuals spend against forecasts and conduct regular executive-level financial performance reporting.
- Efficiency & Cost Savings: Proactively identify, implement, and track opportunities for significant cost savings and drive measurable operational efficiencies across all portfolio initiatives.
- Methodology & PMO Support: Govern the portfolio using expert knowledge of Waterfall, Agile, and Hybrid delivery models. Act as a key liaison to the PMO, enforcing standards, applying best practices, and contributing to process maturity.
- Critical Stakeholder Management: Serve as the primary communication hub. Develop and present clear, concise, and compelling portfolio status reports and strategic recommendations to all levels of the organization, including challenging executive audiences.
- Tooling: Utilize Jira and other portfolio management tools for intake, tracking, reporting, analysis, and health assessment of the portfolio.
Qualifications
- 12-15 years of progressive experience in IT, with extensive experience in both strategic portfolio management and project delivery.
- At least 5+ years dedicated to managing a complex, multi-project IT portfolio.
- Proven, hands-on experience as a Project Manager executing complex initiatives.
- Demonstrated, successful track record of driving significant cost savings and measurable efficiencies at the portfolio level.
- Expert-level knowledge of portfolio and program management principles.
- Strong practical experience governing portfolios using Waterfall, Agile, and Hybrid delivery models.
- Proficiency with Jira for project and portfolio tracking.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, presentation, and negotiation skills. The ability to articulate complex concepts and manage challenging stakeholder dynamics is vital.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Computer Science, or a related field.
