The LEAD Clinic Paramedic, works under the supervision of the Practice Manager and under the direction of the provider and accepts responsibility for direction of the nursing staff in the implementation of patient care according to organizational policies and procedures. The LEAD Paramedic works within the scope of his/her practice and the polices of the organization to meet the needs of the patient and/or families. Performs care of the patient as described and regulated by the Missouri Bureau of Emergency Medical Services via the authority of the Missouri Comprehensive Emergency Medical Services Systems Act (Chapter 190, Missouri Revised Statutes 190.010 –190.245) and rules promulgated under sections 109.001-190.245.This position requires intimate knowledge of both clinic and hospital, policies and procedures relevant to delivery of patient care and the ability to communicate verbal and written information in a friendly, effective, and accurate manner. Leads and works cohesively with teammates to provide exception service to all patients, families, visitors, caregivers, and providers.
- Greets and prepares patient for provider examination and treatment. Performs general nursing care to patients. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with paramedic standards. Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition to provider.
- Performs all patient care skills at the level of Paramedic Missouri Licensure. Assists provider with follow-up documentation and phone calls to parent\guardian\medical provider.
- Collects and coveys information to provider regarding health status of patients throughout the visit including documenting into electronic medical record.
- Administers medications (PO, Injections, and IV) authorized for paramedic administration under clinic policy/Medical Director approval.
- Performs point of care testing as well as EKGs, splinting, crutch fitting, phlebotomy, and intravenous therapy. Administers immunizations as directed by the Advanced Practice Nurse/Physician.
- Assists in supply ordering for clinical operations. Assists in creating work schedule for caregivers.
- Performs duties within the goal of optimizing patient flow within the clinic: Obtains vital signs, height, weight, vision\hearing screen and developmental assessments. Also Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of supplies and equipment.
- Assists provider with procedures and properly maintains equipment before and after procedures.
- Engages in patient/family teaching to achieve the desired patient outcome.
- Monitors the scheduling of patients, answers patient inquiries, and maintains timely flow of patients.
- Communicates with Practice Manager and Medical Director to advise of any medical, nursing, risk management or patient satisfaction issues.
- Assigns patients and assesses nursing staffing during personnel call-ins, low workload, or staffing emergencies. Assists with patient assignment to provide skill level needed to care for patients.
- Evaluates caregivers yearly for competencies and performance on clinical skills. Oversees delegation. Other duties as assigned.
Education
- H.S. Diploma - High School Diploma or equivalent - Required
- Accredited Paramedic Training Program - Required
Work Experience
- 1 Year - Paramedic working experience. - Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Paramedic License - Missouri license Paramedic - Required Upon Hire
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Required within 90 Days
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - Required within 90 Days Or
- Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) - Required within 90 Days
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - A.H.A. BLS medical provider certification. - Required within 90 Days
- CPI: Nonviolent Crisis Intervention - Required within 90 Days
