ABOUT HEAVISIDE INDUSTRIES
Heaviside Industries builds multi-domain autonomous precision munitions for U.S. and allied special operations and conventional forces. While modern warfare has rapidly evolved with the proliferation of unmanned systems, hyper-precise munitions in contested environments are the future of the battlefield. Economical precision strike capabilities are critical to U.S. and allied war efforts, enabling successful defeat of enemy military assets and infrastructure. Heaviside builds precision munitions designed to operate in GPS-denied and spectrum-jammed battlefields—where traditional systems degrade or fail—without inflated prices or sacrifice to performance.
All engineering and manufacturing is conducted in-house in Heaviside’s Los Angeles, CA headquarters and Oslo, Norway office.
Heaviside is backed by Interlagos, Menlo Ventures, Flume Ventures, Cantos, Anorak Ventures, and Ravelin Ventures.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Own mechanical design of structures and mechanisms — from concept through qualified hardware
- Drive the geometry, packaging, and load paths that hold the structure, payload, electronics, and propulsion together at required loads, vibration, and shock
- Lead trade studies on materials, sealing and joining methods, and manufacturing processes (injection molding, CNC, additive, sheet metal, composites) with unit cost, weight, and schedule as constraints
- Run structural analysis (hand calcs and FEA)
- Specify, source, and qualify suppliers; own the print-to-part feedback loop with our in-house and external machine shops
- Plan and execute environmental and structural test campaigns: static load, vibe, shock, thermal, HALT/HASS
- Support test — fixturing, instrumentation, post-test teardown — and turn the data into design changes
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 0-2 years designing mission-critical mechanical hardware that has been built and tested
- Expert CAD fluency in NX; comfortable owning large assemblies and full GD&T-driven drawing packages
- Strong analytical foundation — statics, dynamics, vibrations, and FEA experience (ANSYS, Abaqus, Nastran, or similar)
- Experience in an immersive technical project (collegiate project teams or professional setting)
- Hands-on experience qualifying hardware to MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, or comparable environmental standards
- Track record taking parts from concept through DFM, first article, qualification, and serial production
- Machining, sheet metal, injection molding, 3D printing, and composite fabrication skills
- U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.62)
