The Design Manufacturing Engineer is a dual-focus role responsible for designing and optimizing complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. This position bridges the gap between initial concept and shop-floor execution, developing cost-effective designs, detailed drawings, and comprehensive Bills of Material (BOM). The successful candidate will provide critical technical support to production and field operations, ensuring seamless design-to-build transitions while driving continuous improvement through Lean practices and Value Engineering.
Job Duties:
- Design mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems that align with specific customer and project requirements.
- Develop detailed drawings and BOMs using SolidWorks PDM and IFS ERP systems.
- Test and troubleshoot fluid power (hydraulic/pneumatic) and electrical systems to support both shop production and field operations.
- Provide direct technical support to shop floor teams, suppliers, and customers to resolve design or manufacturing issues.
- Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), standard work, and process documentation to enhance safety and consistency.
- Lead equipment selection, tooling setup, and cost-optimization initiatives to reduce manufacturing expenses.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability and reliability.
- Utilize FMEA and Six Sigma methodologies to enhance product quality and reduce costs.
- Work in a variety of environments, including office settings, active shop floors (welding/cranes), and outdoor field/on-track sites in various weather conditions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent).
- 5+ years of experience in design or manufacturing engineering with a focus on hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- High proficiency in SolidWorks, including experience with Product Data Management (PDM) and ERP systems (IFS preferred).
- Strong technical understanding of hydraulic schematics, pneumatic circuits, and electrical wiring.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Lean manufacturing, FMEA, Six Sigma, and Value Engineering.
- Hands-on troubleshooting skills and the ability to solve complex mechanical problems.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and willingness to wear all required PPE (steel-toed boots, hard hat, etc.).
- Must maintain a valid Driver’s License and Passport.
- Ability to complete all required pre-employment testing.
