Director of IT Infrastructure

Overview
A well-established, mission-driven organization is seeking a Director of IT Infrastructure to lead enterprise-wide technology initiatives across infrastructure, systems integration, and cybersecurity. This role partners closely with executive leadership to guide system strategy, oversee complex implementations, and ensure reliable, secure, and scalable IT operations across multiple environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with senior leadership to evaluate, select, and implement enterprise hardware and software solutions
- Lead end-to-end system implementations, including physical hardware setup, network cabling, and full environment refreshes across headquarters and remote locations
- Manage Windows Server environments (2012–2022), including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
- Architect and maintain VMware vSphere environments (100+ virtual servers), ensuring high availability, performance, and disaster recovery readiness
- Oversee backup and recovery operations using Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam ONE, including file-level and full VM restores
- Plan and execute upgrades across core platforms (Windows OS, VMware ESXi/vCenter, Rapid7, Meraki, Cisco, KnowBe4, Deskpro, Microsoft 365, Lansweeper), including after-hours deployments
- Implement and manage cybersecurity initiatives including SIEM (Rapid7), phishing simulations, endpoint protection, and MFA (Duo)
- Administer Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, including licensing, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, conditional access, and group policy management
- Coordinate with external vendors to support infrastructure upgrades, penetration testing, and network enhancements
- Serve as escalation point for Tier 1–3 support teams and provide executive-level technical support
- Oversee infrastructure across remote sites, including server upgrades, wireless deployments, and ongoing performance optimization
- Support enterprise applications such as Lawson, Raiser's Edge, Laserfiche, SQL, Kronos, and Frevvo
- Lead IT efforts for office relocations, system migrations, and hardware refresh initiatives
- Develop and maintain automation scripts (PowerShell/DOS) to streamline administrative and deployment processes
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Computer Science or related field
- 5+ years of IT leadership experience with hands-on infrastructure and systems management
- Strong experience with networking hardware (routers, switches, firewalls) and enterprise environments
- Proven background in infrastructure architecture, systems integration, and multi-site support
- Experience managing large-scale virtualized environments and backup/recovery solutions
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity best practices and tools
- Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
