Position Overview
The Central Texas Food Bank is seeking a strategic and purpose-driven leader to serve as its Vice President of Research and Strategic Partnerships. Reporting to the President + CEO, the VPRSP’s primary responsibility is to advance CTFB’s strategic vision through partnership development with a foundation in research and data insights. The ideal candidate is a big picture, innovative thinker with the ability to balance multiple competing stakeholder priorities while fostering, supporting and supporting a culture of service and data-driven decision-making.
Relationships
This position reports to the President + CEO, with a department of ten: three direct reports (Directors) who collectively supervise seven team members. The VPRSP liaises with a broad group of external, multi-sector stakeholders to support community-based research initiatives and develop strategic initiatives. Internally, this role must nurture strong connections with colleagues on various teams to connect existing priorities to potential strategic initiatives and understand CTFB’s infrastructure capacity to lead innovative solutions.
Your Qualifications
- Master’s degree in an applied research related field, including Social Sciences, Public Health, Public Policy, Economics, Epidemiology, or other field; PhD preferred.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in research, data analytics, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role managing full-time, paid staff.
- 7+ years experience with strategic planning, partnership development, or business development, with a proven track record of success, including direct experience in a non-academic setting.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with, influence, and collaborate with positions of all levels from stakeholders across multiple sectors.
- Demonstrated success in leading research initiatives or analytic strategies within an applied setting.
- Proven track record with meaningfully incorporating community voice and the perspective of those with lived experience into evaluation and strategic planning.
- Strategic thinker with a vision for long-term growth and innovation.
- Results-oriented and accountable for achieving measurable outcomes.
- Adaptable and resilient in the face of challenges and changing priorities.
- Ethical and professional, with a commitment to integrity and transparency

- Understanding of data governance, privacy, and regulatory compliance.
- Working knowledge of analytic tools such as SQL, Tableau, PowerBI, ArcGIS, and statistical tools such as SPSS, Stata, SAS, or R.
- Experience working in a regional organization on systems change is a plus.

Your Responsibilities
Research
- Develop and implement a comprehensive research and analytics strategy that supports CTFB’s goals and objectives.
- Foster a culture of using data as one factor that supports decision-making within the organization and with external stakeholders, promoting the use of research and analytics as one factor that helps drive innovation and impact.
- Oversee the development of data governance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Develop and maintain a robust analytics infrastructure, utilizing advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to drive efficiencies and optimize resource allocation.
- Identify emerging trends, opportunities, and threats in the market through data and research and adjust strategies accordingly.
Strategic Initiatives
- Through the use of research and data, liaise with multiple stakeholders to develop new relationships that have an overarching impact on the organization, ultimately handing off those relationships to the extent it makes sense to do so.
- Engage stakeholders to learn about and influence CTFB’s strategic vision and capacity, constantly remaining alert and forward-thinking about opportunities/innovations and risks in the industry, as relevant, and under the direction of the President & CEO, ensuring it does not overlap with existing departmental functions.
- Support the development of approved strategic initiatives and collaborate with internal teams to assess the feasibility and viability of new initiatives, under the direction of the President & CEO.
- Provide strong leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the research, analytics, and food system planning teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Encourage collaboration, teamwork, and cross-functional partnerships to achieve organizational goals.
- Develop a high-performance department culture focused on leadership and accountability at all levels within the department, continuous learning, collaboration, measurement, and goal achievement by modeling the way and enabling others to act.
- Set performance goals for team members that align to CTFB’s strategy and evaluate performance against goals on a regular basis.
- Effectively coach team members and provide supportive and developmental feedback to enhance performance. Ensure that team members develop the technical, leadership and professional skills necessary for success.

Working Conditions
- Hours of Operation: Core business hours are generally Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. In addition, evening and weekend hours may be required, especially during peak times, disaster response, and/or holidays.
- Environment: This position requires sitting for long periods of time, utilizing computers, laptops, and other technology, and may include working at distribution sites outside. The position also requires working alone and with others on a team.
- Travel: CTFB serves 21 counties in central Texas and often requires same-day travel between counties, using a personal vehicle, CTFB passenger fleet, and possibly occasional out of town travel for meetings, special events or meeting for some positions.
