Position Overview
A global consulting firm is seeking an experienced Director of Mechanical Engineering to join its expanding engineering consulting practice. This senior leadership role is responsible for delivering high-impact engineering consulting services, leading multidisciplinary teams, and partnering with clients to solve complex technical and operational challenges.
The ideal candidate brings deep mechanical engineering expertise, strong business acumen, and a proven track record of leading large-scale consulting engagements across industries. This is a predominantly remote position with opportunities to collaborate with global clients and distributed internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
Client Leadership & Consulting Delivery
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive-level client stakeholders
- Lead complex mechanical engineering consulting engagements from strategy through execution
- Provide technical leadership across multiple projects and industries
- Identify opportunities to optimize client operations, reduce costs, and improve performance
- Deliver technical due diligence, feasibility studies, and engineering assessments
- Present findings and recommendations to senior client leadership
Technical Leadership
- Provide subject matter expertise in mechanical engineering systems and design
- Oversee engineering analysis, modeling, and design reviews
- Ensure adherence to industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements
- Guide teams on innovative engineering solutions and best practices
- Mentor senior engineers and technical leads
Business Development & Growth
- Support business development efforts, including proposal development and client presentations
- Identify new market opportunities and service offerings
- Develop long-term client relationships and expand existing engagements
- Collaborate with leadership on strategic growth initiatives
Team & Practice Leadership
- Lead and develop a high-performing distributed engineering team
- Establish best practices, methodologies, and quality standards
- Drive knowledge sharing and technical excellence across the organization
- Support recruitment and talent development initiatives
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred)
- 15+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Prior experience in engineering consulting or professional services
- Demonstrated experience leading large, complex engineering projects
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
- Experience working in remote or distributed team environments
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to travel up to 15–25% as required

- Experience across multiple industries (e.g., energy, manufacturing, infrastructure, industrial, technology)
- Experience leading global or cross-regional teams
