Vitro has an immediate opening for a Process Engineer at our plant in Crestline, OH. This position is responsible for providing engineering support for a high-volume automotive glass fabrication facility. The Process Engineer is responsible for utilizing advanced engineering principles to improve production line processes with a goal of simplification, efficiencies and effectiveness of assigned process equipment. The successful candidate will have exposure with and responsibility for process equipment, upgrades, new equipment installations, and other technological enhancements supporting the manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement basic assigned production process modifications and engineering projects to increase plant safety, quality, efficiency and to reduce variable costs.
- Develop project plans related to engineering assignments and assist in developing short and medium range plans, providing information for Project Expense requests and ACT’s related to plant and process engineering (including basic technical information, vendor contract, review of technical data and performance of technical study projects) to assist in decision-making for expensed and capital project improvements.
- Utilize effective cost controls and sound engineering judgment in the timely planning and implementation of projects and other work assignments to contribute to plant productivity and profitability goals and objectives.
- Work with maintenance and production to provide technological guidance and assistance in developing equipment operational and maintenance procedures to ensure equipment can perform at optimum levels on a consistent basis.
- Utilize QIP, SPC and other such techniques and procedures in equipment/process design and in the establishment of vendor specifications and other work activities to contribute to continuous improvement activities and to best meet customer requirements.
- Implement and emphasize safety, health and environmental control policies and procedures in both personal work activities and in equipment/process design and modifications in order to contribute to and ensure plant/company safety and health goals are achieved.
- Define the improvements necessary to make process improvements that yield results in safety, quality, cost and control.
- Use lean six sigma tools like fishbones, failure mode and effects analysis, histograms, pareto, and a variety of statistical tools.
- Make improvements through Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED), standardized work, designed experiments, 5S, Takt time, and work cell design.
- Modify control plans to capture improvements, maintain a run chart to make sure the process does not drift, and teach employees how to use their control chart to improve effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical/mechanical/automation engineering
- 2 years minimum experience.
- Willingness to learn the basic automotive glass fabrication processes.
- Familiarity with computer vision systems.
- Familiarity with industrial robots.
- Familiarity with manufacturing statistics, Lean Six-Sigma principles
- Ability to communicate effectively with operators, peers, management and vendors
- Ability to work independently and manage projects to established timelines.
- Good verbal and written communication skills for collaboration across multiple departments and levels of the organization.
- Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of glass cutting, edging and bending for the automotive industry would be beneficial.
- Exposure with and responsibility for process equipment, upgrades, new equipment installations, and other technological enhancements supporting the facility and manufacturing processes is desirable.
- A working knowledge of computer aided-design equipment and computerized processes is preferred.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
