Job Summary
The primary function of this position is to monitor and assign routing to shippable orders and to create a daily shipping plan for the 3PL.

Associate Responsibilities
- Review and analyze daily waves of shippable orders optimized by the load planning system to create and distribute a daily shipping plan.
- Coordinate with on-site 3PL team to execute daily shipping plan, including communication on changes to ship via or start ship dates.
- Identify shippable orders with potential for further consolidation and perform associated duties to validate the pick status, feasibility and efficiencies gained through alternative routing options, quote and tender as deemed appropriate, and update systems with selected routing. Optimize based on cost, capacity, transit time and carrier performance.
- Obtain routing for customer pick-up orders as per their specific routing guide instructions, which includes cross functional coordination to validate status and freight metrics to update into the customer’s TMS/online routing tools, and coordinate pickup with the selected carrier.
- Freight tendered to a carrier represents a binding contract between Carhartt and the carrier that directly impacts the total freight out on sales spend. The Transportation Planner is responsible for reviewing tenders to ensure the loads are issued within the established parameters and optimizing them. Responsible for seeking guidance on shipments which fall outside of the parameters on a case-by-case basis.
- Monitor operational activity to ensure the transportation plan is executed in a timely and efficient manner. Act as a liaison for communication between logistics centers, carriers, customer service, on-site 3PL team and Logistics to ensure timely pick-ups and resolution of service issues.
- Maintain relationships with core and back-up carriers. Responsible for management of cost, on time performance, service, capacity, equipment availability and utilization of equipment.
- Negotiate spot quote rates as needed.
- Deliver improvement of costs and/or operations such as lead times year over year.
Required Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
- College degree preferred in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or related field.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in Logistics or Transportation planning.
- Demonstrated understanding of and experience in use of Transportation Management/Optimization systems preferred.
- SAP Operating experience a plus.
- General understanding of warehousing, order fulfillment and customer service functions and operations.
