About Guidedwave
Guidedwave is a specialized firm of 20 experts dedicated to the advancement of Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) technologies. We are an innovation engine for the nuclear, defense, and energy sectors, solving complex technical problems that have never been addressed before.
Our work goes far beyond theoretical research. We design and manufacture integrated, multi-disciplinary systems that include advanced robotics, precision scanners, advanced sensors, and custom software. With a robust IP portfolio and high-profile strategic partnerships, we take projects from a blank sheet of paper to active deployment in some of the most challenging environments.
The Role: Multi-Disciplinary Innovation
We are seeking a dynamic R&D Engineer who thrives in a "lab-to-field" environment. Because our solutions require a combination of mechanical systems, robotics, and sensor integration, we are looking for a technically ambidextrous individual.
You will work under the mentorship of our President and Vice President to design and build custom systems in close cooperation with a team of skilled engineers. We do not expect you to be an expert in every facet of NDE or robotics on day one; we are looking for a high-aptitude self-starter eager to learn and solve problems. This role is designed for someone who intends to grow into a project leadership position within the next several years.
Key Responsibilities
- Integrated System Design: Using CAD (Creo or similar), design custom components and assemblies for multi-disciplinary systems including robotics, sensors, and scanners.
- Prototyping & Fabrication: Move from design to reality by overseeing the fabrication of 3D-printed and CNC-machined components and specialized transducers.
- Electronics & Controls: Assist with and coordinate with other engineers on the design and programming of electromechanical controls and integration hardware.
- Lab & Field Testing: Conduct rigorous testing in our lab and deploy to customer sites for technology demonstrations and field testing domestically and internationally.
- Global Impact: Support international customers and US government agencies, accessing facilities and equipment – nuclear reactors, Navy ships, military bases, national labs, etc. – that few engineers ever have the opportunity to see.
- Team Player: A dedicated team member who prioritizes collective mission success, willing to "wear many hats" and jump in to support colleagues—whether in the design lab, on the shop floor, or at a remote field site.
- Growth & Leadership: Assist in supervising engineering tasks or junior technicians, with a clear path toward full project ownership as your expertise grows.
Qualifications
- Citizenship: Due to our contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense and the nuclear sector, U.S. Citizenship is strictly required.
- Education: Minimum of a B.S. in Engineering or a related field.
- Technical Breadth: Strong CAD fundamentals and an interest in how mechanical systems interface with sensors and software.
- Hands-on Aptitude: Experience with prototype fabrication, machining, or "bench-top" engineering, and a willingness to get your hands dirty, is highly favorable.
- Adaptability: Eagerness to travel (including international opportunities) and work in varied environments, from clean labs to industrial field sites, and an ability to navigate unexpected challenges.
Why Guidedwave?
- Solve the Impossible: We rarely do the same thing twice. If you enjoy variety and high-stakes technical challenges, this is your home.
- Elite Access: Work on equipment and inside facilities that are strictly off-limits to the general public.
- Mentorship & Advancement: We prioritize aptitude and eagerness. We will provide the resources to expand your skill set into robotics and advanced NDE while preparing you for leadership.
