Position Details
ICO Energy and Engineering seeks an experienced engineer who is results-driven achiever with exemplary planning and organizational skills, who possesses a detail-oriented character. The ability to work effectively with others, as well as work independently, are essential traits to succeed in the role of Mechanical Engineer. A pursuit of continuous self-improvement and the desire to work within an entrepreneurial setting are critical to becoming a team member of ICO Energy and Engineering, Inc.
The Mechanical Engineer works closely with an integrated team to support clients throughout the northeast on new construction and existing building commissioning/re-commissioning efforts and energy and reliability studies. This position will focus on energy engineering primarily (building energy audits, focused energy studies, and energy modeling), but necessarily requires supporting commissioning and other efforts as required. All efforts will typically require on-site activities, including field verification of information, field measurement of variable parameters, etc.
Responsibilities will include leading selected projects with the support of Senior Engineers. This position requires the ability to integrate design theory with hands-on field experience. The desire and commitment to determine a comprehensive and holistic perspective of facility operations and energy characteristics to satisfy individual stakeholder goals is paramount. Detailed technical writing and the capability to communicate with stakeholders across multiple levels, from C suite to operations personnel, is compulsory to the position. The willingness to both perform the field data collection efforts, process, analyze, and perform calculations then finally packaging the effort into a detailed technical report is essential. Working with ICO engineers in the field and the office to participate in the development of the team is an important part of this position.
The Mechanical Engineer at ICO spends their week between office time, site work, and working from home. On average, engineers will spend 2-3 days/week on site. Engineers at ICO average 40 to 50 hours per week with some infrequent off-hours work required for testing or to meet deliverable commitments. ICO engineers work with various platforms and programs daily including Excel, Visio, Word, Google Business Apps, etc.
The Mechanical Engineer position is offered at a competitive annual salary with a comprehensive benefits

Travel requirements consist of frequent daily site visits with minimal extended or over-night stays. Project specific travel includes reimbursed mileage and travel expenses.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, B.S. or equivalent experience.
- 3 - 7 years of experience in building MEP systems, engineering, design, commissioning, and/or energy analysis.
- A strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and mass/energy-flow principals.
- Knowledge of energy and power systems.
- Understanding of building operations; experience in multiple aspects of building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Experience with energy modeling, conducting energy studies, and developing financial performance metrics; experience with Excel-based energy modeling.
- Experience with dedicated modeling programs (such as eQuest or similar modelling program) is desirable.
- Experience providing commissioning, re-commissioning, and/or monitoring based commissioning services.
- Entrepreneurial approach and mindset; ability to assist with generating proposals is preferred.
- Aptitude to integrate into a multidiscipline team and to work well in multiple roles while concurrently leading the effort on specific projects.
- Capacity to support colleagues through project engagement.
- Excellent oral and written English skills.
- Ability to work with computer programs usually applied in commercial/engineering setting with limited guidance and support. Strong background/experience with MS Excel is needed.
- Capability of presenting results to customers and acting as the main communication conduit for customer feedback and suggestions; strong customer service aptitude is required.
- Valid driver’s license and personal transportation.
