Counselor I - Weekend, Holidays, Relief Counselor Part Time Position
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree or 2 years of college in Social Services, and/or 2 years of experience in related field, working with people with emotional problems; must have a Criminal Clearance form from the Office of State Police; and the experience that provides the following:
Knowledge of the behavior patterns and group attitudes of emotionally ill clients; using the principles and practices of group leadership with empathy and objectivity; have the ability to think and act quickly, calmly, accurately, and in emergencies.
Knowledge of general psychology as applied to emotionally ill adults with the ability to gain and hold their confidence and to maintain a sympathetic and understanding attitude to handle crisis intervention situations. Have the ability to enforce regulations with firmness, tact, and impartiality.
Must have the ability to keep routine records, to make oral and written reports, to understand detailed oral and written instructions.
Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships to work as a team and with others.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Single Coverage Position. Receive oral report from departing Counselor. Read and log in WCRC Daily Log Book for knowledge of events and activities of residents. Make regular random building checks, both inside and out.
Maintain a list of residents who have earned Pass Time, and make periodic checks on residents remaining in the building. Plan and accompany residents not on Pass on outings and activities. Facilitate the scheduled Skills Groups and encourage residents to participate in scheduled recreational in-house and community activities.
Mediate residents’ misunderstandings and disagreements. Counsel residents during crisis situations. Transport resident in need to treatment facility. Supervise residents’ domestic in-house assignments, supervise, and assist when necessary, during meals, transport employed residents to and from work and appointments.
Monitor clients taking prescribed medication when scheduled using the approved WCRC Medication Supervision System outlined in the WCRC Policy and Procedures Manual. Document in Medication Log.
Report all incidents and problems to the Supervising Counselor and/or relieving Staff Member. Make all necessary documentation in the WCRC Daily Log Book for program continuity.
Attend scheduled Mandatory Staff Meetings, Group Therapy Sessions, and all required In-Service Training Sessions when scheduled.
Weekend/Holiday/Relief Counselors work closely with each other to maintain shift coverage and relief work.

Weekend/Holiday/Relief Counselors work 6 hour shifts on major holidays. They work relief work when Evening or Midnight Counselors are on sick or vacation leave. Relief work will be called sometimes at last minute if a shift needs to be covered.
Weekend/Holiday/Relief Counselors also will work as needed in case of natural disaster and full time staff are not able to get into to work.
