Position: Mechanical Engineer
Location: Lexington, MA (On-Site 4 days/week)
Length: Multi-Year Contract
** Interim clearance acceptable for hire. The selected candidate must be eligible for and able to obtain a Top Secret security clearance.**
Job Description:
Researches, plans, designs, verifies, validates and develops mechanical and/or electromechanical products and systems, such as metals, instruments, controls, plastics, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, resonance, hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs. May be responsible for the transfer from R&D to manufacturing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for coordinating the logistics for assembly, integration and test planning and execution through all stages of a program. Encompasses all aspects of AI&T except for procurement of the specific hardware to be assembled.
- Support project planning by working with project management to integrate AI&T activities into the master schedule, tracking AI&T execution, and reporting regularly to program management and sponsor on AI&T progress.
- Support all aspects of program documentation, including document control, development of test and assembly procedures and other work instructions, leading reviews of drawings, procedures and test software, and integration of digital engineering tools.
Qualifications:
- Expertise in space systems with a focus on hardware integration and environmental testing
- Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks), organization and workflow planning tools (Visio, Project, Excel), drafting procedures and work instructions (Word) and document control best practices for both design files and documentation
- Experience coordinating teams with diverse areas of expertise and skills
- Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills
- Bachelor’s Degree required
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with thermal and/or structural engineering for space systems to support planning and decisions related to environmental testing
- Experience with mechanical design of fixturing and other test ground support equipment
- Experience with space vehicle-level integration of payloads
