Platt Builders is an award-winning high-end residential renovation and custom cabinetry company that offers partnered design, project management, custom cabinetry & millwork, and finish level carpentry. These specialties enable us to deliver turn-key custom home construction and remodeling projects.

Objective:

1. Reports directly to the Director of Production

2. Provides office and field support for multiple jobsites, with a focus on:

a) Small projects typically less than $100,000

b) Platt Builders Warranty fulfillment

3. Help sales department determine the description of work by lending technical expertise, visiting the site, and participating in the subcontractor walkthrough

4. Maintains client contact throughout projects including regularly scheduled meetings

5. Coordinates all aspects of field construction

a) Field personnel with job assignments

b) Subcontractors for estimating and production before the start of work

c) Materials specification and delivery of startup materials

6. Manages Small Projects Lead Carpenter, including performance reviews and compensation

7. Quality control and warranty issues

8. Keeps track of project job costs to maintain specified profit margins

9. Provides employee training on company production procedures

10. Foster and maintain relationships with architects, designers, venders, and subcontractors

11. Create raving fans of clients, architects, designers, venders, and subcontractors

Position Requirements:

1. Extensive rough and finish carpentry skills

2. Advanced training and extensive knowledge of a broad range of construction methods and techniques

3. Extensive knowledge of the Massachusetts building code

4. Passive knowledge of the Massachusetts HVAC, plumbing and electrical codes.

5. Extensive computer experience and aptitude and willingness to learn new programs.

6. Must command respect of field personnel, subcontractors, and clients.

7. Strong communication, job coordination, organizational, leadership and supervisory skills.

8. A good understanding of all trades relevant to residential construction.

9. The ability to consistently interact and communicate well with the client throughout the job

10. Must dress and appear professionally as required

11. Able and willing to teach others

12. Available for extended work hours as required

13. Perform physically demanding work on a consistent basis, including lifting 80 pounds

14. Massachusetts driver's license and good driving record

15. OSHA 10 (will provide training)

Position Responsibilities:

1. Setting expectations for client, Platt team, subcontractors, vendors, designers, architects, and anyone associated with the project

2. Responding to communications in a timely fashion, typically within hours.

3. Applying for building permits

4. Creating a weekly production schedule showing where every field employee will be working for the following two weeks; this must be submitted each Wednesday by the end of the day

5. Building projects schedules in the company project management software

6. Ensuring all project documentation is uploaded to the project management software

7. Submitting timely requests for labor for projects through the labor management software

8. Meeting weekly with Director of Production, cabinetry, and sales departments to update them on project issues, schedules, change orders, and budgets

9. Assisting the Lead Carpenter with identifying materials or work outside of the description of work

10. Coordinating with clients on change requests including specification, pricing, schedule changes, and client approval

11. Assisting Controller with budgetary tracking and cost allocation against estimates

12. Assisting with estimating, ordering, scheduling, inspecting and warranty issues

a) Attending subcontractor walkthroughs during the sales process

b) Reviewing subcontractor quotes

c) Providing expertise and building knowledge during the sales process

d) Providing a rough production schedule to sales and cabinetry during the sales process

e) Reviewing precontract estimates upon request

f) Reviewing precontract descriptions of work upon request

g) Inputting warranty issues into the company project management software.

15. Conducting a handoff meeting with sales

16. Conducting a preconstruction meeting with the lead carpenter in the office using the project management software, to include cabinetry if applicable

17. Conducting a preconstruction meeting with the lead carpenter and the client(s) on site.

18. Assisting with the choosing and the acquisition of product(s)

19. Setting up each project with a sign, dumpster, portable facilities, and/or startup materials.

20. Troubleshooting field problems

21. Maintaining the project schedule

22. Managing the client, architect and/or designer

23. Managing labor needs for the project

24. Meeting with the clients(s) at least biweekly

25. Participating in hiring, evaluating, disciplining, and promoting field staff

26. Monitoring field documents and daily reports

27. Processing and reviewing project expenses

28. Tracking, forecasting, and reporting project revenue
