Under the direction of the Police Sergeant, the Police Officer is responsible for enforcing laws and ordinances set by the State of Ohio and the City of Riverside. Work involves prevention, detection, and investigation of accidents and criminal activities, security and safety of prisoners, protection for the public, and maintain law and order. Officers must be able to act without direct supervision in emergency situations.
Example of Duties
- Protect and serve the community by maintaining law and order, enforcing local, state, and federal laws, and responding to emergency calls promptly.
- Conduct routine patrols in assigned areas to ensure public safety and deter criminal activities.
- Investigate crimes, accidents, and incidents, collect evidence, and interview witnesses to build strong cases for prosecution.
- Maintain detailed records of activities, prepare reports, and participate in court proceedings when required.
- Aid and support to the public, offer guidance on safety measures, and resolve conflicts when appropriate.
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, first responders, and community organizations to address community concerns and enhance public safety initiatives.
- Stay updated on current laws, police procedures, and law enforcement best practices through regular training and professional development.
Required Qualifications
- For Entry-Level Officers:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Successful completion of a certified police academy program at time of appointment.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Have no felony record.
- Minimum 21 years of age at date of appointment.
- Strong moral character and a commitment to maintaining the highest ethical standards.
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident authorized to work in the U.S.
- For Lateral Transfer Officers:
- Must be OPOTC certified.
- Minimum of 2 years of active law enforcement experience at a municipality or equivalent in Ohio.
- Demonstrated an excellent work history and passion for community involvement.
- Minimum 21 years of age at date of appointment.
Supplemental Information
Pay for this position starts at
$33.07 per hour for Entry-Level Officers. For Lateral Transfer Officers, the starting pay may vary based on experience and qualifications.
